Abruzzo Day 5. 20th April
Our last stop for the day was this pretty town encircled by the Majella mountains. Scanno has been immortalised by photographers Henri Cartier-Bresson (1951) and Mario Giacomelli (1957-1959). Cartier-Bresson, a French photographer is considered to be the father of photojournalism; Giacomelli was a self-taught Italian photographer who wandered the streets and fields of post-war Italy, inspired by the films of Vittorio De Sica and Roberto Rossellini. According to Edward Lear, Scanno was host to Italy’s most beautiful women – I was hoping to see some of them during our brief visit but no luck.
Scanno is a paradise for those who love photography; there is something interesting to capture around every corner. Here are a few shots from the many I took.
Quinto Mancini (1893 - 1963) the father of American composer Henry Mancini was born in Scanno on March 13, 1893 and emigrated to America where he was a steelworker.
Thank you so very much for looking and for amazing comments and Fav's. I was awed by all the response.
