The eight-pointed cross is the symbol of the Knights Hospitaller Order of St John, now more popularly known as Order of the Knights of Malta.
I will not bore you with the many pictures I took inside the Jerez cathedral but I want to show you just one shot of the nave to give you a glimpse of the inside and this other shot to show the influence the Order had all around Europe.
When we saw the Eight-pointed cross above this altar we immediately associated it with the Order, so we walked to the Information Desk at the entrance of the cathedral to query its presence. The lady behind the counter phoned somebody to ask and the reply confirmed our belief. I tried to find more information on the internet but I had no luck.
Thank you so much for looking, for your views and fav's on yesterday's picture.
Goodness....that is some lovely building....so ornate.......The cross is also the insignia of the St John Ambulance organisation.....they also have links to Malta I believe.
