These are some of the shots that I took while walking along the Sliema promenade of the damages caused by Sunday’s storm.
1. Balutta Bay. Until Sunday there was a lovely sandy beach here with thousands of money spend to replenish the sand. Now most of the sand has been washed off.
2. St Julian’s Waterpolo Club. Everything ruined – nothing but the stone building remains. Even the floor tiles were completely upheaved and destroyed. Here the ruins are waiting to be carried away.
3. This is where I normally park my car. These metal fences finished in the street below.
4. Spinola Bay. All sorts of debris and rubbish carried here by the waves and wind.
5. Spinola Bay. One boat that was not pulled up on dry ground, disregarding warnings, finished upside down on the sea.
6. Trees on the promenade. Those that were not uprooted leaning heavily to one or the other side. Most of these had to be pruned not to be of danger to moving traffic or pedestrians.
7. Trees on the promenade. The roots and part of the trunk of one of the uprooted trees that fell onto the road.
8. Spinola Bay. Boathouses on the protected side of the bay had their doors smashed.
In the countryside farmers reported a lot of damage to their glasshouses and their crop and many trees along motorways were uprooted.
A big effort was made by government employees to clean up the country and life has returned to normal now.
Many thanks for your views, comments, and fav’s. They are very much appreciated.
Oh how awful. quite a bit of damage. glad it's over and with the help of your government back to normal. I also posted two pictures of the storm. our area, fortunately, was not damaged too much.
Goodness.....that was a truly dreadful storm and so unusual for your Island. We have had such storms on the Cornish coast quite recently....they do cause so much devestation and loss.
