The girls ran around and around trying to get their new kites to catch the wind while I lay on the grass trying to catch their kites against the perfect blue sky.
They kept running into each other and getting their kite tails tangled and nearly tripping over me and there was so much giggling and shrieking that we woke little brother from his nap inside the house and the neighbors must have thought we were crazy.
It's moments like this, moments of pure, carefree joy, that I wish I could bottle and keep forever, so that one day when I am old and gray I can unstopper it and hear their shrieks of laughter and the patter of their feet and feel the wind and the grass and the sun in my hair and that stick just under my shoulder as I squint up into the blue waiting for a kite to magically sail by.
@samzee I don't remember kite flying as a kid, but I do remember picking out a kite once at a store...? Maybe a tree ate it. :/ Anyway, I found these little (about 2' wingspan) nylon kites with finger spools at Target for $5 apiece. Best $10 I've spent in a while, the girls have gone out every day to run around and try to get them to fly (wind or not) and despite being dragged along the ground and (temporarily) stuck in trees several times, they're still going strong!
