We were traveling on the PA Turnpike when everything came to a complete stop. People got out of their cars and began conversations, started games of catch and talked on their cells phones. Both east and west bound lanes were stopped. As it turned the accident happened in the west bound lane, but police stopped traffic in the east bound lane so victims could be life flighted out.
It's a great shot, although being stopped waiting like this is always stressful. Hope it went well for all involved, and that the rest of your travel went smoothly.
@lynnb - Thank you very much Lynn!! I was pleasantly surprised how nice people were and how open they were to conversing.
@kerristephens - Oh wow in deed Kerri! It's one of those things you hear about and even think about happening, but the people around us were very friendly!
@cdonohoue - We never heard any news to know how bad they were hurt.
@vickisfotos - We are very grateful that we were spared anything happening the remainer of our trip. We made it to the OBX an are hoping for a great Labor Day week!
@juleswoome - I was totally amazed at how friendly people were. Just minutes before this everybody was flying down the highway on their was to some destination. Maybe when something like this happens people become more aware of waht is more important in life!
@greyfeather - No actually it was a dry sunny day. The turnpike is devided by a 5 foot high concrete wall so is was difficult to see what might have happened
@redrucksack - At first when we realized that all the traffic in front of us had come to a complete stop you think, "Oh don't tell me there has been an accident!" But then you start to think about who might have been involved and how badly they might have been hurt. Then the slight inconvience of you being stopped doesn't seem to so important.
@myautofocuslife - Thank you Livia!! We didn't hear any news since we were travelling out of state to know how bad they were hurt. But we could see enough of the car as we drove by to know they had to be cut out of it. We got a peek of the roof of the car and saw it was lifted up and the posts were all cut on the one side.
