I just happen to be walking towards the kitchen window when I saw a large bird fly into our neighbor's tree. I watched and finally saw that it was a pileated woodpecker. I went to get my camera and my wife said, "It just flew over our house." When I returned we looked out the dining room window and saw it in our wild cherry tree. But a cat of our neighbors started stalking it and it flew over to this ash tree where I could get a few shots. My longest lens is only 250mm so I zoomed in in Photoshop to make it bigger.

Thank you very much for all you terrific comments! Went we moved into our house many years ago, we saw one of these land on the power pole that services our house and we never saw another after that until now. We have no idea where they went or why they have come back, but we are happy that they did and hope to see more of them.
