Meet The Band

Our granddaughter and all the other members of this year's marching band returned from a week of band camp. This year was terribly hot and humid and then after 5 days at band camp, they return home and performed for the hometown fans.
I believe our granddaughter will sleep most of today away.
We had a heat advisory and threats of possible thunderstorms. But it turned out to be a very pleasant evening as light clouds moved in and blocked the sun and a cool breeze started blowing. Which we were very thankful for.
Wonderful

A good look at the band and some of the spectators. (Hope there were more behind you for the sake of the kids.)

@randystreat - There was a good turnout. I would have sat higher in the bleachers, but our daughter and another mother only sat a third of the way up.

I admire all those summer campers when they have to weather through this heat and humidity. Marching band is particularly demanding when it's this hot. Good shot!

You had a great view! She must have been exhausted!

@taffy - She was a very tired young lady. Not only for the physical demands but also some things that happened that caused emotional stress.

@olivetreeann - last year was better weather wise and those that attended seemed to be more in sync with one another.
This year some of the rookies had poor attitudes. Makes you wonder what they thought they were in for going to band camp. Vacation, fun and games?

@skipt07 Absolutely- work at band camp? No...vacation, fun and games of course!

@olivetreeann - Her first year at band camp was last year and it was a great experience. So, of course, she went into this year's expecting the same. Unfortunately, that is rarely the case. Last year the squad leaders were exceptional and the different sections responded positively to their leadership. Some of those leaders graduated and their replacements don't have the same skills which caused some problems. Some of the rookies just seemed as though they didn't like the way things were done, and the whole squad paid for their actions. One rookie in my granddaughter's squad, when ever she received correction or critique, would respond with, "whatever." We'll see how long her stint in the marching band lasts. Hopefully, she'll change for the better and start to listen to those with more experience instead of rebelling against them.

Don't think I have ever met a "bandy" without great character.

Great scene with such a good pov...

@4rky - We all certainly did. The band director is an exceptionally gifted man. He seems to be able to gain the trust and respect from the band members who then want to perform well for him. In the long run the band looks good, performs well and gains the respect of the community.
