Everything seems to be clumped together this year. The 4th of July, the Fireworks Festival, Hot Air Balloon Festival and Waterfire this Saturday. Not much time to settle down and breathe. Inflating a balloon with hot air. The "Glow" as they call it starts at 9:00 pm so we try to get there around 7:30 to get as close as possible since they cordon off the area where the balloons are unpacked, put together and inflated. This balloon was approximately 90-100 feet from us. I got in this tight with my 24-105 lens.
@maggiemae - First they use a high powered fan to blow air into the balloon to inflate it. After it is fully inflated they use the propane burner to heat the air up which cases the balloon to rise. They give short bursts on the burner to heat the air gradually.
