Our Amish neighbor gave us some corn shocks to put out as a decoration just before Thanksgiving. When Thanksgiving was over I removed what was left of the corn cobs. The squirrels and chipmunks had partook of the goodies while they were out. I forgot about them and came across them yesterday and so I attached a board to this tree and stuck the cob on a nail. This morning we found this guy had been very busy.
@annied@danette - I had seen other people do this. I remember being at a man's house where he had a wheel about 18 inches in diameter that had cobs attached at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock . The squirrels could turn the wheel so they could reach each one from a perch the man had made for them to sit on. I wasn't sure how long it might take for them to get brave enough to come to it, but it didn't take long!
@dmdfday - There was a smaller squirrel on the ground gobbling up what this one dropped. The cardinals were happy too as they were enjoying the fruits of his work and clumsiness.
@skstein - I am pretty sure he was as the cob was full when I put it out last night.
