Alright, how in heck do you people do those amazing close-ups of your eyes? Every shot I tried like that failed miserably. Out of focus, not close enough, etc. I'm hoping there's some magical piece of equipment I'm lacking and it's not all due to my inability to figure this out.
Anyway, due to those failed attempts you get one of my silly outtakes from today.
Lina I have super Macro on my camera... I can basically touch something and it will take a clear shot... I dont think your camera has this.. other people use tubes but I cant remember what they are called....
@nikkers Oh yeah, I've heard tales of extension tubes. Alas, I don't have those or the super macro feature. Boo. Guess that's a good excuse to go shopping!
@triciaanddazzle Me too! I took what seemed like a million pictures of myself to get just a few usable ones. That seems to be my strategy for selfies too.
Have tried this before and failed! In fact I think the last time I tried eye photos I shined (shone? I'll go with shined) a small maglite torch directly onto/into my eye, and that didn't work so well on numerous levels
A while ago, I considered buying a macro lens, but it was so... so expensive... I went home crying instead. :D That's why I am missing on those superb macro shots. Spider hair, when will I have clear shot of you... :( :)
@eyebrows Well thanks for nothing! I suspect you know much, much more about photography than I since I would be absolutely lost if it came to setting up mirrors and such. But I'll take your advice to kidnap someone and force him to take pictures of me until he gets it right.
@yotan18 I know that feeling all too well of being reduced to tears when looking at new camera equipment. I'm at the point where I'm not good enough to justify any new purchases for something that's just a hobby. I hope you get your macro lens one of these days as you really have a gift for photography. Have you ever considered renting lenses? I fear I'd do that and then wind up falling in love with a $1,200 lens.
You need a 'pretend' macro like me..... with my magnifying filter..... oh no, that would be our sad little pity party wouldn't it?! Having said that, I haven't actually taken any of my eyes with it. I'm thinking of doing a bit of research on the extension tubes - so I'll let you know what I find out.
When I started my face selfie shots are the start of the project, before I had my remote - I would put a soft toy in the frame first, focus where I wanted, set the timer, run around and knock said soft toy out of the way and then very carefully try and sit in the exact same spot (all before the timer went off and took a photo of nothing or looking up my nose or similar. I got some good shots that way, because I atleast knew the camera focus had been set. Having my remote has now made this a lot easier, but not as challenging exercise wise - so much less running around backwards and forwards. And like my yesterday's shot - I can stick my remote in my mouth if I'm using my hands in the shot! Talented.... I know!
I also sometimes will stick a mirror behind the camera, just so I can see what I look like, in the right position, pose etc etc. I feel such a goose posing for myself in the mirror!
Anyhoo.... that's enough rambling, this picture is pretty, pretty, pretty and I think you have lovely eyes.
@sourkraut Thanks Lina for the comment. That came out of nowhere, and it caught me off-guard. :D With regards to the lens, a while ago, I checked a 70mm macro Sigma lens costing 460 euros. I have not yet googled the usual price range nor the reviews, but it is still costly. The Nikon 105mm macro lens was an astounding 800 euros! Not in anyway will I even consider buying that for a hobby. Unfortunately, we don't have any rental of lenses here, so, got to make do with what I got. :D PS, don't fall in love with $1,200 lenses. They will break your heart, and bank account... :D
