Night Ship by stephomy

Night Ship

It's dark when I leave for work, and dark when I get off. I'm getting a lot of overtime, but not a lot of down time. I still took an extra 15 minutes after work to ride down to the water to get this picture of downtown Seattle, and a ship at the grain silos. I'm getting better at picking the right shutter speed for night shots without a tripod. I did rest my camera on a post keep thinks kind of still. Some of my pictures with the really slow shutter speed were kind of cool, if you like looking at a lot of blurry dots :b
Great low light shot.

I LOVE doing night photography, and never really did it much before being challenged in a Get-Pushed once. Since then, I've done quite a few, really, any chance I can. You were smart to use a post when you don't have a tripod. I can see the easily distinguishable ferris wheel, and the foreground lights add interest, too.

What do you think of this for a challenge: I wonder if you've done much arranging of objects to create a still life? You create a grouping in a pleasing (or intriguing) manner, and you photograph it from various angles. You try to "create" a scene, and project a sense of harmony -- or not. What do you think?

@jyokota I'll try that. If my daughter sees me setting stuff up, she'll get obsessed and help me, then want to do them herself. This might be fun...she's getting a camera for Christmas.

@stephomy -- a few of my attempts can be seen in 365. One, in which I assembled items from my house that I thought would best show off my persimmons: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2013-11-25
Another in which i rearranged my teapots: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2013-11-16

It's fun to gather items around the house and assemble them into a scene. Especially when daughters are involved! :)
