What do Canadian geese do during the winter time? They hang out in Southern California. Literally snow birds. Unable to take a photo today, so I subbed one taken from yesterday when I played hooky from work.
Great capture and composition, love the detail against the background, as Sarah said they come in their thousands to winter in England, Hooky day followed by a verbal warning on your return to my office Ron, lol:)
Lovely image, we have lots here in Suffolk too, they like the lakes where to took the coot and little grebe shots! Not popular with the local farmers though!
The chosen DOF has created an excellent soft backdrop for this handsome goose's portrait. I love how their brown feathers are tipped with a lighter color. Regal-looking bird (until you make them mad. Then it's no more Mr. Nice Guy)
I'm very behind in my responses to comments. You noted that a different camera is taking my pictures. Yup — ridiculous, overly extravagant gift from my husband. He's such a nice guy, but a little on the crazy side. He also told me I have to be the one to take the pictures needed for the Roland digital printing jobs so there's a catch to being the proud owner of such a fine piece of photography equipment.
@Weezilou Ha ha, Louise! I suppose we'll have to pay millions for all of these undocumented geese, huh? Yes, my travels are on pause for a bit. It turns out my passport is expired so any trips will be domestic, and none are planned until mid-February. I told the passport folks to take their time (as if that was necessary), but it will probably be a month and a half or so. Sure, I'd love to get together at some point - I'll be in touch.
@gilbertwood@clake@lyndemc Thanks for the comments on the background. It's one of my first attempts with a long lens on the new camera - 400 mm in this case. I decided to treat myself to a 2X teleconverter, and so far I'm liking it!
@terryliv Sickie is awesome, Terry! Sadly it turned out that I decided to declare it a vacation day - the first I've taken since my motorcycle trip last August. Pitiful, I know.
@lyndemc Well congratulations! What a great (and crazy in a great way) hubby you've got! You must be on cloud 9. I look forward to seeing how you express your creativity with the 5D Mark III - and the Roland digital printing jobs too, of course.
Great capture, love that creamy bokeh
Speaking of "going north", I look forward to hearing about your (work related?) travels... perhaps another get together?
