a long time ago, the first mr. summerfield gifted me with this ring when he noticed that i didn't wear any jewelry. he bought it from a tiffany's shop in new york during one of his business trips. over the years and from moving around too much, i have lost the certificate that the store issued with the purchase. it's a small ring because he knew i wouldn't wear anything expensive and showy as sometimes i go and visit home and my neighbourhood had declined over the years. as with other jewelry he's bought me, this mostly stay in the night stand drawer. rings are a bitch to wear because i would have to take them off when i wash my hands and then put lotion on and i'm afraid to lose anymore of my sentimental baubles. for the last few weeks though i started wearing it to work. (the semi-precious title refers of course to the birthstone on the ring, but the ring itself to me is priceless!)
macro photography is rather amazing. i thought that that dark elongated thing on the side was just a shadow and i tried different angles so it wouldn't be there. when i looked more closely, i realized it was part of the ring's design which i never noticed before.
funny story. when he gave this to me, he insisted on putting it on my finger. i asked him rather suspiciously "you're not proposing are you?" he looked at me for a long time while my right eyebrow kept rising higher waiting for his reply. after an interminable silence he finished pushing it into my finger and said "not yet, the ring will be grander than this when i propose." then i gave a sigh of relief.
