it's not a sonata by summerfield

it's not a sonata

a last minute idea. pulled whatever prop was within reach to go with the violin. i thought i'd do a rim lighting, but i forgot that i've done that with the violin before.

i think i'd like to challenge myself with this painting thingie. since i start my painting projects on the weekend, i thought i would post a finished painting on the monday or tuesday. i couldn't think of any other challenge that i could take up for 52 weeks, on top of the 'capture 52' that i will try to fulfill. and if they can be combined, why not?

i'm "back" at work tomorrow. it felt so strange. i thought on saturday it was monday and today i thought it was monday again, and indeed, to my surprise, it was. 😂

You've successfully created a mood here! One thought -- the hard edge of the lace along the top, is there some way to soften it by scrunching it or putting something soft under it?
January 5th, 2021
@jyokota - i was thinking of that, but i've already put the stuff away and i'm lazy to assemble the props again. i may have to make a re-do sometime. it's gnawing at me...

I'm visiting you at the symphony carrying that rose and wearing the lace shawl and reading from the written word as I listen to the magnificent music! Just take me there!!

@summerfield It's still very nice (and a fav) but it just seemed with the soft lines of the lace and curvy violin and rose petals, it leapt out a bit whereas the book's straight lines are not as contrasty as on the light colored lace.

@jyokota - dangit! i couldn't make that violin stand the way i had it before. 🥴 but methinks this looks much better, yes?

@wyomingsis - when that happens, the rose might be dead, and it's not a shawl but the valance of my curtain that i don't use, and that violin might have already been trashed if it pisses me off again. 🤣

@summerfield I do think it works better without that harsh straight line :) And you DID go to the effort because you're a perfectionist

Love the composition

oh very nice!

very nice setup. I got for my tag challenge petals + music. I think you could easily capture that. It's tormenting me.
As for the narrative, it must be awful to have two Mondays in a row!!! I wouldn't wanna be you...
All the best! I think the challenge to show us a painting every week is awesome. That will keep you more thank busy. I just realised that last year I was planning that this year i will try to make a small drawing every day, as a journal thing. It's the 5th day of the year when i remembered my last year's plan... And the thing is i don;t remember what i did on the first two days of the year...
Hey! Are you my therapist by any chance? If not, will you be? :D You just start me talking and talking...

Sorry I missed the first shot so I can’t compare this one to it but by all appearances this one is perfect! It is definitely a FAV. You have a remarkable eye for composition especially with a still life. I tried to think of some challenge for you to do for the year and couldn’t come up with anything any better than what you have come up with. It’s going to be exciting to be able to see all your creativity

I knew this was going to be your shot. Wonderful arrangement of items.

You do a great job with your still love shots Vikki. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your paintings too :)

Fab composition - I spent ages wondering what all the fuss was about with the lace and the straight edge, then realised that you had created a second picture. Impressive effort and by the looks of it , well worth it as this works a treat. I look forward to seeing your paintings.
