Another inuksuk caught my eye as we were driving along, this one welcoming visitors at the end of a driveway.
Here's a copy/paste of the info from my previous inukshuk pics: "This is an Inuksuk (pronounced In-OOK-Shook). It means "to act in the capacity of a person”. It is a spiritual, sacred and directional figure built with natural stones, deeply rooted in the Inuit (Arctic native) culture originally for the purposes of communication and survival. The traditional meaning of the Inuksuk is "Someone was here." or "You are on the right path." It had many specific uses, depending on the structure and placement.
In more recent times, it symbolizes strength, fortitude, determination and friendship. It has become a symbol of various organizations and events, including the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver [friendship and welcoming the world] and the Summit of the Americas [friendship and cooperation]."
Many thanks for dropping by. It's very cool that my trek through the woods at 7 am last week was rewarded with the sunrise pic on the pp. Thanks for that!!!
Fantastic Welcome Shot, Anne! Like the composition and brightness! Your shots are so very nice and you add the information that makes it even more special! I enjoy your time and talent in your posts very much!
What a beautiful form of communication with other people . . a great tradition that they have there. This one reminds me of a little "snowman" with a red scarf around his neck. Wonderful photo and info, Anne.
Anne, Thank you for the info, I was about to stop and open wikipedia :P, but then I scanned forward. This is a truly remarkable symbol. Thank you for sharing. Love the scarf
thanks for the info ~ I love these and knew it was "something" like that. Very interesting ~ I've seen them on trails before. This one appears to be decked out for the holidays =)
