6:30 a.m. Sun is out. ONS4 challenge is wildlife. Will probably see urban wildlife like squirrels and birds. Optimistic!
6:40 a.m. Jim says it’s 17 degrees out (F or -8.3 C). Despair!
7:30 a.m. Walking to all day meeting. No sign of life – wild or otherwise. Discouraged!
10:45 a.m. Outside for a short break. See a squirrel and shoot photo. Squirrel is blurry and boring. Disappointed!
3:00 p.m. Walk a few blocks to other building for more meetings and pass by dumpster (large garbage bins). Consider returning in evening to capture urban wildlife (i.e., rats) at the dumpster. Area usually avoided by humans after dark. Become nauseous at the thought. Reject idea.
5:30 p.m. Spot a rare pair of the “red-crested yellow-tube,” urban wildlife that are only occasionally visible. Usually emerge when crowds are expected, laying in wait to surprise unsuspecting passers-by. Excitement! Photo capture!
Can you spot them among the 'distractors'?
Note: all other wildlife shots were taken prior to starting Project 365.
I love your story! This month is not being kind to us. I actually took care of the wildlife part while it was sunny. Then at day's end, when it was cloudy, went "Duh, SYMMETRY!" and went back outside to find some.
All your animal photos are fabulous, beside than the yellowtubes I think I like the crab most of all. Very nice creative response to the challenge!
@anwan Thanks Annette. We were lucky enough to go to the Galapagos two years ago with Junko (@jyokota) and her husband. The wildlife there was truly amazing.
@foxsparrow Thanks Ann. ONS4 today was a challenge -- and it was fun to go back through the photos I did have to make the collage. I nice way to end the day.
@anwan Junko and I actually created a 100 page photo book for our traveling companions (there were 6 of us in all). We have thousands of photos from among the 6 of us so be careful what you wish for!!
@vankrey It was certainly not feeling the day before spring, was it? And I can't help but believe if it had been warmer, more animals/birds would have been out. I even tried looking for spiders in the house!
Great collage and I love the red-crested yellow tubes! I feel your pain; I got home from work and went looking for wildlife. Nothing, apart from some shy birds singing in the trees, but not showing themselves, and two seagulls that went by so fast I couldn't catch focus. Where are all those darn pigeons when you want them?
I just love the stories that go with your pics, they always make me smile and some days I need a smile. Photography can sometimes be very frustrating, but when you get 'the' shot it's all worthwhile. This is a great collage of pics, wonderful wildlife,
