On the way home from the grocery store yesterday, Jim spotted this doe hiding in a sunny space among the trees, grazing probably on the tall grasses. She stood very still staring at us as we watched her, so I slowly raised my camera and she continued to pose. I was planning to post yesterday along with the Daddy Frank's collage, but then the sunset was so interesting, I didn't. But I really liked the doe's eyes and the way the sun highlights the pattern in her ears, so decided to post it today instead of birthday related food shots.
Sliver update: Success! A 1/4" sharp sliver of wood finally worked itself so a bit was sticking out enough to use a tweezers and pull it out. YAY!! This is the last update!
Journal entry for my own notes: Posting this from yesterday after a day of preparing for, then celebrating Jim's birthday today. A "big" one so celebrations will last for a few days, but today was me cooking dinner for him:
a. homemade tuscan bread
b. shrimp scampi
c. roasted asparagus
d. mixed green salad with hearts of palm
e. most amazing of all: carrot cake thanks to @jyokota's husband's recipe (Jim's favorite of all time...note to Junko...Jim said it was good, but nothing is as good as Bill's).
Entertainment is watching Grame 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. As I post this, we're down by one.
Update: we won by one point in tripple overtime which happened about 2:00 a.m. our time!
What a gorgeous image!! I can't believe you were so close and that it posed so still for you. Glad to hear that sliver is out, too. Sounds like the birthday dinner was tasty, and I'm only sorry that we weren't there to enjoy it with you and JIm!
Beautiful capture of the deer. They always seem so curious, don't they. Nicely composed. Sounds like a wonderful birthday celebration dinner for the two of you!! Wishing you both the best!! (p.sl I am behind in thank yous...but you asked where are. We are at the Oregon Coast staying at some friends family home. Going home tomorrow, but have had a really nice time. Thanks so much!)
I love how she's framed by the grass and how the light catches the grasses. I like your sound of the birthday dinner. Thanks for your comments about the asparagus btw, it was displayed on a red plate which is why I chose the red vignette and blurred the edges.
Great shot! Some of the deer here practically come up and take the camera out of your hand to do a selfie- especially if they think you're going to feed them! lol Great shot, hooray about the mega-splinter and hockey game, and a big happy birthday to your husband!
Beautiful capture, Taffy. Just love the light on her face. Isn't it great to have husbands who watch out for photo ops for you? Congrats on your Blackhawks win. I made it to sometime in the 3rd period. My husband stayed up through the bitter end. It's tough to watch the "other" team. Miss my Redwings. Had a computer crash this week so hope to catch up on posting and commenting in the next couple days. Sounds like a yummy birthday feast!
@barbsmith Thanks for the kind comments Barb! Sorry to hear of computer crash! But not sorry it's Hawks instead of Redwings -- but that is my 'other team' from our years in Michigan. Game 2 we'll be watching with close friends who are diehard Redwing fans. Jim doesn't know it yet, but I"m flying in his son, our daughter-in-law, and grandkids to surprise him for tonite's second birthday dinner (he only knows the Redwing fans will be there -- so the Saturday night game will become a much bigger social event)!
Thank you for your kind comments! I'm hoping that she is a little less trusting come fall and hunting season, though! She was such a beauty.
I love the light in the ears of the doe too! Greatly timed capture!
Birthday celebrations and your dinner sound wonderful.
Thank you all for the kind words, the details you liked in the image, the happy birthday's to Jim (he appreciated them!), and Ann, the request for me to cater your next birthday! The one you really want is Jim!!
