One more hike to Millers Marsh late afternoon with our visiting friends, Mark and Ellen. We did the loop and spent some time at the beaver lodge that is in the lake (just to the right in the lower right hand corner). There really are beavers on Beaver Island! Beavers use their lodge year after year. Just behind where I took this photo, you can see 3 trees with fresh beaver teeth marks and a bunch of tree chips on the ground. Mixed among these are downed trees and tree stumps with classic beaver cutting shape (little cones at the top of the stump). As you can see, it was a cloudy day. It was also really windy. I processed this to try to convey the intensity of the weather as we hiked.
A view from a slightly different POV is in my extras album: http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-08-14
@pamknowler Thanks Pam! I appreciate that! I've never seen a beaver -- and this marsh area is the only place I've seen evidence that beavers are currently active. Naturalists on the island talk about other areas but I haven't gotten to them.
That's a great loop - you've captured the feel of it well, especially with the weather we are having right now. It's amazing to see how busy the beavers have been there.
Wow, love the dramatic look, the sky is almost lilac and I love how the clouds seem like pulling the eye deeper into that shot, even the branches in upper corner corners seem like they are pulled in, captivating!
@northy@paintdipper@olivetreeann@havrotb@kerristephens THanks so much for the view and the comment. I want to capture several more areas on the island before I leave and am glad that when I was at Millers Marsh, the sky was so cooperative.
@hettie@vskolnik@gamelee Thanks Hettie, Vee, and Lee. Thanks for liking this capture! I appreciate it. It was one of those days where the sky just kept calling to be looked at and photographed!
@jo13@joanf Thanks Jo and Joan for you lovely comments. And Joan, thank you for viewing several of my photos today -- I loved reading what you had to say about each one. Your comments and your faves -- thank you so much!
Thanks Mike, Caroline, and Alice! I appreciate your viewing and positive comments about the shot.
