Jim and I both taught til 8:00 and neither wanted to cook. Joe was a guest speaker in Jim's class so Jim invited him to go out to dinner with us as thanks. Because of the rain, there were great light reflections in the street. Getting the shot went something like this:
1. Jim to Joe -- see what it's like for me? She's more focused on her camera than conversation (me in front passenger seat trying to take a shot as Jim drove)
2. Taffy to Jim -- can't you stop the car, just for a second?
3. Jim to Taffy -- there are cars behind me!
...Stop light turns red....
4. Taffy to Jim -- please, just turn off the wipers
5. Jim to Taffy -- okay, but be quick
6. Taffy to Jim -- just a few more
7. Jim to Taffy -- the light's turning, that's it.
And, that was it...and the reflections are orange!
Another shot from the moving car is in the extra extras album: http://365project.org/taffy/special-photos/2013-10-30
This is an easy FAV for me! Love the lights, the reflections, the city scape at night in the rain and of course the conversation! Those are the moments that create especially treasured memories! Lol!
Lol, yeah don´t we all know that kind of conversations in one form or another, lol. Definitely love those reflections and the mood, so I think it was worth it, glad you got the chance to take these and I´m sure you enjoyed your dinner without taking pics and had a great night :)
@busylady totally hooked. Badly addicted! Actually looked forward to dentist today as he's on the 18th floor overlooking millennium park and let's me open the window!
Love your story!! Good to know someone else puts their companions through the same craziness that I do. Your result is a fav! Wonderful colors and reflections.
Nice script of a real conversation...I know the refrain, "THEY" all seem to complain about our prior interest (= photography).
Nice shot, so it's already rainy and cold in Chicago?
@mara19500 Actually it was warm, muggy, rainy and generally not so nice today. Fun that so many of you have recognized this conversation and experienced it in some form!
Lovely picture....well worth the effort....and, I love the conversation! Yes, our spouses are long-suffering "365 widows", and their cooperation is much appreciated. Mine is more like "I will take you for a shot, drop you off, and then sit in the car and listen to sports while you find that perfect shot and it turns dark"!
@panthora What a great spouse to have -- especially if he's willing to do that fairly often. Jim's very supportive but calls himself a 365 widower all the time. But he often tells people he thinks I've become a good photographer which makes me feel great. Thanks for the kind comments!
love the lights and glow... and i can sooooo relate to that conversation... my husband has been rolling his eyes of late over the things i've been accumulating to shoot...
I was out admiring the lights on the wet road the other night. Wanting to take photos, but didn't have my camera and didn't want to wreck. Very cool shot!
@jo13 Haha! I know - so funny to hear Jim refer to 365 as "once the year is over." I'm too hooked, though I do hope that I feel less like an addict next year!
LOL! That conversation sounds familiar; I agree, it's so nice to have someone else drive while you can safely focus on capturing your beautiful scenes. Love the look of rain and light in the evening in this shot. Amazing work.
@riverlandphotos Thanks so much! And thanks too for your visits today and wonderful comments. I really appreciate it! Glad you liked my little conversation, too.
Had to laugh at the dialog here! There's not a night that goes by without Jeff saying, "My wife would rather look at pictures than look at me!" Sad face and pout.
:-) they really think we have lost it!
Nice shot, so it's already rainy and cold in Chicago?
I like the golds and wet pavement.
