Aging Gracefully

Cat is master to stepson and daughter-in-law for the past 18 years. Once a wild cat, now he mostly sleeps in warm spots. He roused his head when we visited tonight, but only briefly, to look at my camera and make clear he saw no need for me to photograph him.
Thank you for your comments and favs on The Hand. It's in quite a busy spot so quite safe...but I wouldn't have wanted to go inside!
Wonderful picture. He looks just like our cat Mike, who will be 16 in August.

This old boy reminds me of a Tom Cat that lived at our house in the 70s. he too was black and white, my dad picked him up of the street as a kitten and he was nobodies fool. Great shot of this fella, Love it.

Great focus on the eyes. Beautiful shot.

What a LOOK ! That cat has mastered the art of communicating with a look. @vankrey might have to add this look to his repertoire when teaching high schoolers!
April 13th, 2014
Haha he doesn't look too impressed by the prospect of having his photo taken!
April 13th, 2014
Nice capture!
April 13th, 2014
Not amused Taffy! Lol.
April 13th, 2014
He's much too dignified to allow photos. You caught his personality here.
April 13th, 2014
Cute kitty
April 13th, 2014
Good expression
April 13th, 2014
He looks like a cat with attitude! Nice portrait!
April 13th, 2014
@jyokota I think I have something in this vein, but will work on it. Taffy, great animal portrait. A lot of personality portrayed here.
April 13th, 2014
Wow 18 years...he deserves some attitude!
April 13th, 2014
Ha ha, He does look annoyed.
April 13th, 2014
A beautiful capture!!
April 13th, 2014
Distain - thy name is Cat! Well caught!
April 13th, 2014
How lovely to see a once-wild-cat in a happy home setting. I marvel at good photos of cats and small children...both seem to have jettisoned off of their trajectory in my sphere...
April 13th, 2014
So cute.
April 13th, 2014
Eighteen years! Wow. That is aged for a cat. Wonderful portrait of him. I laughed at your description of this look he is giving
April 13th, 2014
Inscrutable rather than world weary, though that is some age for a cat
April 13th, 2014
Sweet sweet old man.well loved and beautifully photographed!Talk about impossible to challenge!Ugh! OK...see if this makes sense.I love your eye for architecture...you have a way of making buildings and structures look organic .You capture all the curves ,textures and details and create a compelling composition. So my challenge to you is to do this on a much smaller scale.Looking at the details of a building and creating a composition from one small area.If that makes no sense at all let me know!
April 13th, 2014
@mzzhope Oh, I love this idea!! I haven't done much like this at all, and so many buildings here have quite amazing details. I'm already running through buildings in my mind and am excited to head to those with my zoom instead of wide angle!! Thanks for the push...we'll see what comes out of it.
April 13th, 2014
Wow, he really is lived a very long life, even for a cat and he doesn´t look that old. Hoping he has some time still left and few adventures to live
April 13th, 2014
I love black and white cats and this one is so beautfiul!
April 13th, 2014
Well he looks very fit for an old boy, lovely expression.
April 13th, 2014
Looks like the picture of content

April 13th, 2014
Cats are so elegant !!
April 13th, 2014
A wonderful capture and love that you caught his expression. He does look very tired. He has had a wonderful full life I am sure so no wonder he is tired. Hope he has lots of sunbeams to enjoy.!
April 13th, 2014
He looks great for 18!
April 13th, 2014
I love that he "roused his head when we visited tonight". That says it all. Love it.
April 14th, 2014
He does not look amused!! :>D
April 14th, 2014
Love the expression!
April 14th, 2014
Sweet kitty capture!
April 14th, 2014
Looks like a wise ol' cat!
April 14th, 2014
It's tough to be disturbed from a cat nap. :)
April 14th, 2014
@lyndemc I felt a little guilty bothering such an old cat who clearly wasn't interested, but he was too photogenic not to try to capture him.
April 14th, 2014
I confess, I too would've gone ahead and taken the picture even tho it meant disturbing the old guy. There are some opportunities you just shouldn't pass up.
April 14th, 2014
He's beautiful!
April 17th, 2014
Such a beautiful cat and wonderful shot. My cat lived to be 18 and you could see age in his eyes as well. Love the markings and detail you captured.
April 18th, 2014
Haha love that expression!
