Taken today at the Palace of the Popes in Avignon, where the Popes reigned for about a century (the 14th). After they were unseated and the papal seat moved to the Vatican in Rome, people in Avignon spoke Italian for about another 100 years. The area is huge and this was a very small chapel, but I thought quite beautiful.
This is combined using photomatix from three images, then tweaked with Aperture contrast, definition, and balance.
Thank you again for your lovely responses and comments. I so appreciate them and enjoyed reading them tonight!
Notes re our day today (no need to read further -- mostly for me to remember):
1. San Remy en Provence area including mental hospital (St Paul's) where Van Gogh was treated and painted so much of his work, including Starry Night
2. Roman ruins in Glanum
3. Chocolate shop in St Remy: Joel Durrand
4. Avignon Palace of the Pope
5. Pizza pickup in Vaisson when grocery stores were all closed
Great day -- still no internet -- available for first time about 1:00 a.m.
Super shot Taffy. Love how it converges to the doors. Amazing architecture. How difficult it must have been to build vaulted roofs. Fav Chocolate shop - do tell!
A beautiful shot, Taffy. I was looking at the Trending page and scrolling thru the photos. As soon as I saw this shot, I said, "This is Taffy's photo" Your style and skill speak in each of your photos! Fav!
@888rachel Thanks so much for the fav, Rachel. This lens is quite a wonderful one so the lighting is all due to the lens. Using HDR helps and I've gotten steadier at using it handheld for three shots. Can't do four!
@ceilidh Heehee! There IS a bridge and they have the nursery rhyme on a huge wall in the gift shop outside the bridge! I'll try to post a photo at some point of the bridge.
The contrast of the cool blue tones in the floor contrast beautifully with the warmth of the walls and the lights. Your highlighted centerpiece is definitely the focal point.
Great shot

Thanks for another great interior shot, I know how difficult it is to get even close to your quality. Avignon has been on my "go to" list for some time, so hope to see some more images.
Gorgeous! I've missed most of your travel photos as I got off schedule this month. Will be looking at them but probably not commenting on all as once again, I am sooo behind on everything. It looks like you had an amazing trip. fav
