Visitors on the Beach by taffy

Visitors on the Beach

A turkey and her chicks were strolling down the beach early this evening. It was such an odd sight I just had to post.
Thank you so much for your comments and favs that put "Peering Through the Grasses" into the TT this week. It's so reinforcing and encouraging -- I appreciate your support!
Egad, it's August already!
I like how you caught them with their wings out. It must have been lovely to see them.

Sweet! We saw some when we were out there a few years ago. I was flabbergasted! It was a hen with about ten chicks. Great shot!

Remarkable capture with the little ones' wings up like that. Aren't they amazing creatures? I've never seen turkeys on a beach. Ha!

This is so good seeing the wings outstretched like this! I've got to look at the TT!

Oh, how bizarre! Great find.

love the little ones flexing their wings and sgtrutting. Turkey mamas are so alert and shy that this is an amazing capture, not just that they're on the beach.

What a sight! I bet they were fun to watch. Great capture, Taffy!

Great capture. Not often do you see the chicks and if you do they vanish into the grass.
August 3rd, 2014
Fun find and capture. Great timing to capture those two posing - what a pair of show-offs! :-D

What a great find! Lovely shot.

Beautiful - I love the chicks' flapping wings.
August 3rd, 2014
These little chicks are really strutting their stuff! Cute! I also posted shots of a strutting peacock and Monarch butterflies in the past couple days. What's next on our agenda?

Super find,a cute capture:-)

Good job in spotting this shot. Was it hard to get close or were you using a zoom lens?
August 3rd, 2014
Beautiful shot.

Wonderful! We have 4 or 5 little ones in my neighborhood but I've only been able to capture them once.

I just saw two this week in the woods. I did not want to be reminded that fall is on the way! Good shot.

This is so neat - love the various poses they were giving you. And such a nice spot to find them.

Very cool capture! Looks like the little ones are dancing

@thirdjoe Thanks Joe -- I was using my 70-300 zoom at 300mm. And today, it was amazing -- this same family, I'm sure, walked across our deck, looked in our screen door, and just ambled along! I hope they come back again when I have camera more in hand. I just have them as they are ambling off the deck. It was so exciting! (Gives you a sense of 'excitement' when living in essentially in the middle of nowhere).

Wonderful shot looks like they are dancing
August 4th, 2014
Lovely capture Taffy, it reminds me of a Victorian print.
August 4th, 2014
OMG -- will you be sure to ask them to stay til the weekend? Love the contrast of the parent, seemingly nonchalant while the farther chicks are fluttering for attention.
August 4th, 2014
@jyokota Would you believe yesterday morning, the whole family walked across the deck!! The adult looked in the screen door at Jim who was reading in one of the leather chairs that faces out. They stared at each other, and then she and her chicks ambled along!
August 4th, 2014
@taffy -- can't wait to see it for myself! What lenses should I bring and do you have multiple tripods up there or should I bring one?
August 4th, 2014
@jyokota I have my main one, but think I left my travel in Chicago. I also have my gorilla pod. But, there are some night shots in town that I think we should do so bring travel tripod or gorillapod -- either should work. And I have a few others that are clunkier but you can use of course! Switching to email...

The last time I've seen turkeys on the beach, we were eating them! haha. What a fun sight to capture!
August 5th, 2014
@cjphoto Oh no! Not what I'd hoped this photo would elicit!
August 5th, 2014
@pflaume They walked across our deck this morning -- had to be the same turkey family. I wasn't fast enough to get a shot, but it was amazing to watch. Jim said one looked in the screen door right at him, and then just moved on!
August 5th, 2014
@taffy - Haven't had dinner yet, so I couldn't help it. Plus I figured that's why the two in the front were running away. haha.
