With a Picture Japan get together next week for revisiting our experience and sharing photos, I've returned to the thousands of photos I've not had any time to look through. So after spending a day on photos, I've organized Days 1 and 2 out of 9. Here's one...
Lessons:
1. Less is more
2. Look at photos right after a trip, not months later
3. Only bracket shots that look like they'd really benefit to avoid 3 where 1 would serve
Thank you for your visits and comments on yesterday's photos. I'm way behind in commenting and visiting photos and apologize. I can't believe how much time organizing photos is taking!
That is such a beautiful scene, it is hard to tell if it is partly landscaped or 100% natural! The processing gives it a gorgeous soft quality and I love the muted feel to it. Fav!
This is such a soothing image.
Empathise re holiday shots! I inadvertently deleted my 36y folder from my NAS drive and while Craig is recovering them all I can't look at my holiday ones
This was an instant fav, its such a beautiful composition and oozes tranquillity, it reminds me of a shot I did in the Chinese gardens here.
I have to keep looking at it as I love it so much,
I know what you mean about looking at photos straight away and organising them, I start then it take too long so then I stop because I get fed up. Good luck in doing it.
lovely; interesting how it's pretty much just a natural scene but manages to look completely Japanese. Out of curiosity, why look at pictures right after a trip?
@francoise Good question, Francoise! Mainly because I'm now behind on the entire summer -- and some of the photos are harder to 'place' than they would have been right afterwards. Fortunately, for the Japan trip I'd organized them by event each day, so instead of by day, I have the location of where we were as well as the day and that's helping. But for the France trip, it's only by day, so some of the shots I can't tell where I took them. But mostly, I just feel disorganized and behind and wish I'd done this earlier...
I'm dreading getting home after this trip and sorting out the photos. It's also frustrating that some of the images I want to share now won't upload onto my sister's laptop so I'm going to have to sort them out and share when I get home. Still their garden and my iPad are keeping me in touch. I can't access wifi in the annexe so try not to disturb them too much when they are resting as they have visitors for well over half a year and shouldn't have to keep us amused.i also like to give Jeremy space as he has MS. I love this image, it definitely has a Japanese feel to it. Fav
Beautiful. My photo organizing skills are dreadful. No more than dreadful.... Must must get more ruthless in deleting images and more thoughtful in the process of taking...
Beautiful peaceful shot Taffy. I love waterfalls and I would love to sit by this one listening to the water. Fav!
Good luck with the photo sorting. If I don't look at mine staright after the holiday I cannot remember where I was!! I am trying to delete more as I go too but it is hard as I think maybe I can come back and do something with a shot - I should delete straght away!!
Wow, this is such a beautiful shot, Taffy. I agree, it would be wonderful to have the time to look at photos right after your trip. How wonderful that you will meet up for a Picture Japan get together. At least you may have photos narrowed down to favorites to share. So glad you organized your Japan photos well as it can be hard to remember where you were. FAV
Beautiful capture. Im very organised with my photos, after a few days or even a day, upload them on computer and organise in folders. It is good to look back sometimes.
I thoroughly agree with your three lessons of the day Taffy. I've been caught far too often with swag of shots and no time/inclination to sift them. This is a lovely 'classic' Japanese shot Taffy, very subtle and moody. Fav
Definitely know how much time it takes to organize photos. But happy you found this one and shared it with us. Simply gorgeous scene! Amazing how the rocks reflect in the water.
Beautiful, peaceful setting! I find that when I look at photos a few months after the fact, I see them in a new way that's never apparent immediately after taking them.
I agreed with @francoise about this looking unmistakably Japanese... It's the type of bonsai shaped trees & shrubs, the well-selected rock shapes and the hint of bamboo fencing in the upper left. In my experience there, everything presented publicly is so artistically crafted. It's certainly an endless feast of iconic Japanese beauty.
I like your bracketing lesson. I learned that one the hard way on a trip to the coast with a new camera last week! This is lovely. I think you got the exposure just right to capture the essence.
This image evokes a mythical sense -- as if a unicorn would walk right in! But it's Japan! I admire you focusing on the Japan photos again. I MUST do that myself!
I agree, it is so much work! I also take forever to go through mine. We spent seven weeks overseas last year and I thought I had my GPS turned on on my camera but I didn't! That makes it so much easier to pinpoint where we were. We also visited this garden when we went to Japan, your shot is much nicer than mine :) Looks great with the long exposure.
Gorgeous! Love the muted tones! I really appreciate your list of lessons learned. I agree on all counts. Too many images can become so overwhelming and unnecessary.
Beautiful shot!! Obviously, I have missed out on your photos from Japan as you were organizing them.....so glad to get back online and view them! I agree that trip photos should be viewed either immediately or soon after returning home.....it just makes it easier to remember where they were taken and to organize them! Good luck with it all....it's a big job with so many wonderful photos that you have!
