I've been thinking about this photograph all summer, since seeing the rolled bales of hay, but had been waiting to do this during the golden hour. Reality hit today -- countdown to leaving Beaver Island to return to Chicago with only 5 days left. So, when I drove by today and noticed the interesting clouds, I decided today was the day for this photo shoot. Back to Japan photo organization tomorrow!
B&W version from a slightly different angle: http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2014-08-18
Oh, you were so lucky getting a row of them! Well used, I must say...nice vantage point and strong line formed across the frame. The light and exposure is also very good...did you use bracketing for this one?
Your perseverance has been rewarded: that seems to have been the RIGHT time to take this shot.
Very interesting composition and lines. I like the diagonal the bales form across the field and the honey hue. Better in colour, IMO.
Will be sorry to see you leave Beaver Island, but look forward to some wonderful urban shots. I like this color one better. Especially the soft colors.
@miata2u Thanks for the Fav, Peggy. I used Photomatix to combine three photos, and then processed it using Color Efex (Nik Suite) to get the final look I wanted. The b&w one was processed using Silver Efex, after combining the three shots. @ericdibosco Yes -- only .7 difference among the three brackets -- I wanted details in the haystacks and the lighting was tricky to be able to get the right combination of sky and bales. Thanks as always for your kind comments!
This came out fantastic. The clouds definitely added texture and mood to the upper portion of the image. The lite HDR touch is wonderful. I was just thinking about you and wondering if your return to the big city was nearing.
Love the mood this pov, cloudy sky and expert processing has created in this photo Taffy! Oh my- the fact that you're counting down days to departure really does mean the summer is coming to a close soon. )o:
So cool! This is a bucket list shot for me. There is a giant field near my house that bales hay and I never seem to get around to getting a shot. Glad you got this shot!
@eyeamlisa It took me all summer to just stop the car and pull over, walk into the field (not realizing I'd be bombarded by grasshoppers jumping at me -- ick!), and take the shots. But in the end, it was fate, as this turned out to be a good combination with the sky cooperating so well. Thanks for the visit!! Now...plan your bale shot!
Love, love, love this!! and, of course a FAV! I was so glad to see your hay bale shot as we passed so many fields where I wanted to stop and photograph the bales on our drive north, but it really was futile. There is no way to exit, and then you don't know if you are trespassing! Hubby does have his limits.... :-(
