My brother's two hunting dogs...hyper Sherlock and lay-back Leo. Guess which is which!
Back in Chicago at work and preparing to leave for Australia this weekend -- time is flying! Wish I had Sherlock's energy! I'm so glad you all liked the photo of the buck. It was pretty amazing to be so close to one in the wild - thanks as always for your wonderful comments, and for putting Garden of the Gods on PP -- actually very rare for me these days, excited to see it there.
PS -- for the 'real' story of photo above -- see @amandal comment which is the first one below!
@amandal Ah! I was hoping no one would notice!! He wouldn't by running, in any event! They are very funny to watch together. At one point, Sherlock was hysterically barking, brother yells at him to stop, and Leo walks over and barks at Sherlock as if to say "Yeah, can't you just be quiet and hold still?"
Yes I could do some of Sherlocks energy to specially today for some reason. Perhaps because I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't sleep. I love the coloring and markings on the white dog. Nice capture!
Great capture of both dogs in action! Lol! How exciting Australia at the weekend! I know you have to work but I am sure you will make some time fir yourself! Safe travelling!
@tonydebont Thanks Tony...the flight is the one thing I'm NOT looking forward to at all!! But the rest, even the work, should be great fun and interesting.
Super shot! Love the detail of Sherlock, they're handsome dogs. Hope all of your travels go smoothly, Australia's on my list of places to see....one day.
@888rachel And sun screen!! It's getting colder here and hard to wrap my mind around such hot weather! At least it makes packing lighter weight than going somewhere cold.
@888rachel Good point! I was just thinking about lenses (had to take a break from thinking about presentations!). I'm thinking: 14-24 superwide, 24-85 kit lens, 70-300 telephoto. I wasn't going to carry my macro as it's fairly heavy. Given that you're moving into summer, I'm wondering if that is a mistake and I should bring it. Any thoughts? I'll also bring my tripod in hopes that a night session will work out after the dinner. I know that's a long shot.
The comments above gave me a chuckle. Lovely light in your shot and I am a complete pansy for dogs, so lovely. Safe travels and I hope you and @888rachel have a terrific time. Looking forward to the shots. :)
@nanm Animals are really fun subjects, I find. I've always had a dog until a year ago June. It's strange not to have my own at home to photograph. Thanks for the visit and comment.
@taffy Andrew will be taking the lead for your visit, and he is not really a macro type of guy! You would get more use put of your other lenses for your Brisbane visit. Do you want to borrow my tripod? I can always get it back from Andrew later.
@888rachel That's a really nice offer re your tripod! But, I also hopefully will be using it in Sydney as I'm going to meet up with @Elaine55 there as well. I don't know if Cairns offers much in the way of night shots, but i know I'll be tied up all day so if I do any photography there, it will be nighttime shots, I suspect. I think I'll leave the macro behind...it would be silly to be in new places and take closeups, I think. Thanks for the lens and the clothes advice...actually, re clothes...if someone says 'cocktail dress,' what would you think that means for Brisbane attire?
LOL at the dogs being dogs. Love it. The new canine addition to our family is settling in well, will be able to post some shots soon. She's very active and not easy to photograph well. Enjoy your time in Oz, and come back again so we can meet up and go out with cameras. Remember to carry water with you when you go out a-venturing.
I can't wait to see what you end up shooting over here Taffy. Cairns has a nice esplanade so you might like to do some night shooting there also.
Lovely action shot of the dogs in the pretty light. I'm heading to Cooktown for a couple of days around the 23rd, be prepared for humidity in Cairns.
@bella_ss Thanks Sheralee! I just realized you are in North Queensland! I'm going to bring my tripod for night shots as I know I'll be tied up most days. I've heard it's quite hot and humid in Cairns -- not looking forward to that particularly, but excited to be able to spend the week there (til the 22nd). Are you in Cairns or further north?
@taffy No, I wish I was because I would love to meet up with you. I live in Charters Towers which is just inland from Townsville. I will be so close and yet so far as I will be passing through Cairns on the 24th (thought it was the 23rd). Let's hope the weather is kind to you because it's actually quite a nice day there today (compared to here anyway). I should rephrase what I said earlier... the esplanade is nice but no beach.
