I'm pretty sure I saw a movie by that name, but it seemed to fit here. This beautiful building was on our Adelaide photo walk that @silver_fox organized, the Adelaide Arcade right off the Rundle Mall (the outdoor business district). The Arcade was a photographer's dream (and probably a shopper's one too), filled with interesting lines, designs, and structures of what looks like a by-gone era.
Fabulous POV Taffy, at first by the thumbnail I thought it was the QVB. A very similar layout with great lines and patterns, an architectural photographer's delight!
I am at present sat in Hyde Park by the Archibald Fountain waiting for my husband as we are going to the ballet this evening to see Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake an all male cast.
Your timing was so lucky, because full of people it would have been a different photo entirely. The bottom looks like rich dark woods and the top is golden colors. Someone put a lot of thought into this.
My first split-second impression was that this was an incredibly ornate train carriage. I think the curved ceiling inspired that thought. Wow! What a place to shop. Beautiful everything!
I haven't been up a slide's steps in a long time. The things 365 inspires, huh.
Fabulous Taffy, you have such a wonderful style I would know your shots anywhere. I am going to go out and try and shoot something with you in mind....eeek!
Wonderful shot Taffy, beautiful symmetry. Even the two diners are almost the same. I shot this when I was there last year. Adelaide is a fantastic city.
This is a wonderful shot... the symmetry is great. You lined it up just right. There are so many interesting textures and architectural elements. Great job.
@sailingmusic Funny you should say that as I was just thinking that some of these wonderful places I photographed would be so nice to revisit, without camera, and just relax/take-in the views! Thanks for the visit, as always.
@tomtom Hopefully you'll get back there to photograph! @northy Thanks Mira! Actually one of the 'gentlemen' is my friend Cindy (and her husband is the other). She's in khaki's and a white shirt with her back to us, so easy mistake.
How interesting, that such a mix of architecture from bygone days and the sale of wigs and beauty products comes together here. Those two people at the center really soften the image and make it alive.
I absolutely love the lines in this one. Plus, the photo is so full of interest. This would make an absolutely wonderful picture for a 1,000 piece picture puzzle.
Taffy, do you understand how the site determines when to put a photo on the Popular Page? For example, why did this photo not hit the PP when you have 47 favs? I don't understand the process. It's puzzling to me. It seems quite arbitrary to me.
@khawbecker Ross explained it in a blog post -- it has to do with an algorithm that includes number of followers. Since I have a lot of followers, even though many aren't active any more, I need usually about 60 to make it to PP, and sometimes not even that many will do. Sometimes I've been on TT with photos that weren't on PP. It is a system that's designed to be more fair to those who are starting and not give an advantage to those who have more fav's simply because they have more followers. Proportionately, that would make someone with 50 followers and 5 fav's more even to someone with 100 followers and 10 favs. I hope this makes sense! I admit sometimes I'm disappointed if a very popular photo doesn't make it to PP because then more people might see it, but in the end, it's the fairest way Ross can do it.
@thirdjoe Thanks Joe! That means a lot to me. I had hoped this one might make it further, but am happy with all the positive responses to it. There were so many amazing buildings in Australia that I was happy to have the wide angle with me to capture them.
This is a fantastic shot Taffy, you've nailed the whole shot pretty well perfectly in my book. Definitely a fav, and definitely worthy of being on TT!! Sorry I can't write more, but I'm trying to catch up on two weeks of other folks' shots!!
@bankmann Thank you so much for all your visits and comments. You have absolutely made my start to the day so wonderful. Especially appreciated at the moment. The fire situation worsened and we lost the interior - shared in most recent photo so won't go into it here -- so the emails with such kind comments popping up made my day feel good as I started it.
