Thanks for your great comments on the two mountain climbers -- I'm glad I'm not the only one who would not want to trade places with them, no matter how great the view!
I wish I could say I caught this image in the wild. I will say it's not something you'd easily encounter in Chicago!
Sporadically commenting this week...very busy at work and not able to keep up.
A big FAV !! what a gorgeous portrait of this majestic animal - my few humble words can not fully describe the pleasure I have in viewing this shot - so much clarity and detail , the glistening eye to eye contact ,the velvety coat and those magnificent horns (not to be tangoed with !! )Absolutely beautiful !
@gamelee I prefer shooting game with my camera...but I recognize that hunting is fine if the meat is consumed...it's just a long-standing difference in my brother's way to spend time with wildlife and mine. And I know I am a hypocrite in that I still eat some meat and wear leather shoes. That's all...Thanks for the visit, as always, Lee!
Great looking sheep, which I imagine is in a museum. BTW, maybe you want to fix your tag: it say sheet instead of sheep. Thanks for your good wishes to my health.
@anazad511 Thanks Ana! Just fixed the tag. It's actually on my brother's wall. He had a permit several years ago and was successful in his hunt. When my niece and nephew were little, their routine was to say "goodnight Mr. Sheep' before going to bed.
I was trying to figure out where you "shot" such a gorgeous creature. He's hanging on the wall! So lifelike... what an amazing set of horns. Nice shot.
Please excuse me if I reflect on something that happened to us. You mentioned that you wish you could say that you caught this in the wild. A few years ago we were visiting our daughter and her family in Alaska. We were driving down the highway 2 when we came upon a number of of cars pulled off the road. My first thought was that there had been an accident. As I slowed down we noticed many people had binoculars and cameras. We then noticed what they were focused on. A Dall Sheep on the rocks in the median. So I pulled off too and managed to get a couple decent shots. This is a great portrait of your Bighorn.
What a neat idea - wonder if I can get away with taking my camera to the doctor's office - he's an avid hunter and has 3 big mountings on display in the waiting room - including a bear. Love the way you composed your shot and the wonderful detail on the horn and eye.
Amazing and magnificent creature. IF you saw on in the wild it would be difficult to get this close...or you would have to climb some really steep rocks really fast! Such great detail ...
I don't know if you'd really want to meet up with one in the wild anyway. He'd be bothered you entered his territory! Better to meet one hanging on a wall. Nicely captured.
