For our mentor/critique group charged with focusing on one object from three perspectives. Photos were taken at the Newberry Library in Chicago, filled with old-fashioned card catalogues that, with the advent of computers, have pretty much disappeared from most libraries. There was something quite lovely about being surrounded by these beautifully maintained wood cabinets. They really fit the library's environment.

Here you go! I had a different plan but decided these old-fashioned card catalogues were worth working with. I love this theme -- it's making me rethink how I look at an area where I've taken multiple images and I'm seeing things I wouldn't have otherwise thought about!
I really loved these old card catalogue boxes... they are so symmetrical and each card contains a little bit of the person who created it. Wonderful lines, of course!
This is really fascinating - love how you worked it all together. Those perspectives are really neat. Didn't know libraries even had card catalogs any more - especially ones so nicely preserved. Your focus in each shot is terrific.
God, that brings back so many memories! Back in college I used to work at the Art History library for extra money, and really loved those card catalogs! Everything is digital now, and just like ebooks the touchy feely part is gone!
I love the perspective of this collage and the repetition, quite a work of art. The younger generation won't even know what they are. I heard a child a couple of weeks ago ask "What's that" when she pointed to a public telephone kiosk. I wonder how many kids are asking the same here.
This collage is so well put together! It took more time and effort to do research back in the day by searching through the index cards.Imagine actually having to go to the library instead of looking just something up on your phone,
This is such a terrific subject to pick for the 3 pictures of 1 thing. These bring back lots of memories of time spent in libraries, researching projects. I like how you have shown us the larger view of the whole things, then getting closer and closer to a draw.
Such a great collage showing the 3 views of the card index - perfect for our theme this week. I think that this is probably more along the right lines than my effort!! Love this Taffy - what a find - memories of going to the library when I was young and asking for a book and the librarian looking through the card index. Nothing as grand as this though!! Fav!!
Oh, that is why one of your group did that artist from three perspectives. What a cool idea. Another way of demonstrating that each picture has many pictures that you can capture. Here your framing so matches the picture that for a moment I thought why is there no drawers behind in the left picture, thinking the top right was the next row. LOL
Fabulous dof and collage. I never liked using card catalogues and I'm glad they have been replace by computers. But they always came in the nicest cabinets. A fav.
You've hit the nail on the head with this one Taffy. Just what I had in mind. You can really see the craftsmanship in the bottom left and then you see the scale on the right of that craftsmanship. Look forward to your subject next week.
Oh my golly whizz Taffy, this one takes me right back to a different era. I loved the card catalogues, so tactile and full of history in themselves. This is a great triptych and tells the story eloquently. Fav
These make such a great photo subject! The glowing wood, and the repetitions - and I think your selection, especially with some of the drawers pulled out and braking up the pattern showcase it in the best way.
