I have no idea what DIVVY stands for, but that's what they are called. They're becoming ubiquitous around the city, with locals and tourists as likely to rent them. I saw a rare bank with none missing on my way home from photographing the Art Institute helmeted lion. Processed today -- have been enjoying working in b&w. But heading up to Beaver Island early tomorrow morning so it will be color and nature for the foreseeable future, I hope!
House is guaranteed to be move-in-able July 16th! So we have a few weeks to relax before it all falls apart for a bit.
I can hardly wait to see your landscapes though I've been enjoying your b and w shots. This one, to my not experienced b and wh eye, seems maybe a tad too contrasty. The I'd like to see it with the whites toned down just a tad. I love the composition and repeating shapes though
@redy4et I've not rented one yet and the jury is out on what it costs. It's $7.00 for 24 hours if you check in every 30 minutes (so it's great if you're touring and you only need to go short distances, then dock til it's time to go to the next one. But reading reviews, it seems it's around $12 - 15 an hour if you don't dock it. So not a permanent solution to biking but useful for little hops. ANd, they are still working out kinks where the stations won't have any bikes, or you can't check in because there isn't a slot. Not for someone on a tight schedule.
Cool perspective. Unfortunately when I clicked on the link Flickr says 'page cannot be found'. I will check again from the laptop later, maybe it's a mobile problem.
Great pov Taffy. I prefer the Flickr version though as there is more detail of the bikes. Safe journey to Beaver Island and have a wonderful relaxing time. I look forward to seeing the island again!
I love the repetitive pattern of these bikes, and the high contrast processing. So glad that the timing is going to work for you with th move. But in the meantime, hopefully you can relax on Beaver Island and forget about it for a while.
Think it is the all caps that throws you as it did me. I put it in search and came up with a dictionary explanation that turned my checks red for not recognizing it. Divvy up or share! Clever of them really. But your shot is the more clever.
These rental bikes are showing up in every major city. They make great subjects for repeating pattern photography besides helping keep cars and pollution off the road and giving folks a healthy way to get places. Very nice shot, fav.
@jgpittenger Hi Jane -- I ended up uploading the version you recommended re white tones, with Ross's cropping suggestion modified by your final comment. Thanks as I do like this version the best.
@olivetreeann Thanks Ann...I've taken so many of these and this is the first one that I've really liked how it turned out. They are bright turquoise blue so really stand out when in color.
Super shot. I have taken a ton of shots of these too (including them partly burried in snow), but never posted one. I like the vanishing point of this one going to the left hand corner it is always temping to go for a more centralized shot of these. I do believe the name comes from sharing the bikes, "to divvy up the bikes, to share them out".
Looking forward to your landscape shots of Beaver island!
So exciting........your move in date is approaching fast!!
