My Camera Needed a Boost by taffy

My Camera Needed a Boost

Back to sorting through some shots from our NYC visit...a gray and rainy, and busy day today.
When @jyokota Junko and I were in NYC, we were starting our walk on the High Line when this photographer caught our attention. He was using the DSLR to take photos through the second SLR camera. We saw him along the walk. Junko asked him what it was, but it turned out he was not an English speaker, so he could only respond to our question by explaining that it was a camera. We found it quite interesting and mystifying how this system worked!
Thanks for your kind comments on the Rookery shots, and the fun ones re the purple dress code memo for rock and guy!
Ok, that is a very interesting way to shoot. It looks like they have gone too a lot of effort to make or get adapters to make it work. I hope their results are worth it.

interesting

This is so interesting, perfect for street photography as it is hard to decipher where the photographer is looking at.

Neat shot!

What an odd set up - I wonder what shots he got from it.
October 25th, 2015
What an odd thing to be doing, but makes a fascinating photo.

Someone here posted a bunch of photos like this. Shooting through the lens of another camera has an interesting look. Looks like these guys managed to work out a solution for lining up the lenses.

Am totally mystified. And fascinated. But this is such a great street shot. Well spotted and captured.

Intriguing.

Interesting capture :)

intriguing photo

Pity he wasn't able to explain what he was doing. I think it would be really interesting to see what type of pictures he had.
October 25th, 2015
Would have been fascinating to know what he was doing. Great capture Taffy
October 25th, 2015
definitely falls in the "people are awesome" category.
October 25th, 2015
That is really interesting, Taffy. Cool shot.
October 25th, 2015
Great street shot but quite mystifying as you said

I didn't realize you had caught this and when I scrolled down and saw it, I thought, "Oh, that NYC photographer who had a camera!" :) Still baffled. Good capture, though!

This made me even more curious!

Cool shot and an interesting looking camera.

Neat candid
October 25th, 2015
Great candid...your question still needs an answer :)

Great find. He seems to be using an extension tube for macro photography on the dslr and the Twin-Lens-Reflex Cameras (TLR) as lens. I guess what are they looking at. Very interesting and intriguing setting.
October 25th, 2015
A very interesting find, I am going to visit my friend Google to see if I can find out what was happening here.
October 25th, 2015
LOL! Looks difficult to carry
October 25th, 2015
Great capture.
October 25th, 2015
Looks like a lot of gear to carry... a fascinating peek into another photographer's work, though. Intriguing!
October 25th, 2015
This is a lot to carry :) I love all the tones you have there!
October 25th, 2015
Looks like a complicated set up- cool shot in b&w
October 25th, 2015
Interesting shot. I have just asked David about this one and he said that the chap has a Cokin filter on the front of his camera and he is looking through a Rolleiflex camera viewfinder with the lens pointing upwards, presumably aimed at a building or statue etc. to get a special effect photo using the filter.
October 25th, 2015
Well that's intriguing, would love to see the results of that! Good job someone know's what's going on Babs @onewing
October 25th, 2015
Well spotted and captured image of that guy's equipment. Makes me feel totally inadequate.
October 26th, 2015
WOW...so interesting. Great shot of it Taffy.
October 26th, 2015
Fascinating! And I thought carrying one camera around was enough.
October 26th, 2015
Hmm, very interesting. I wonder what kind of an effect he gets, or why one would want to do that.
October 26th, 2015
Cool picture.
October 26th, 2015
@onewing Thanks Babs! I appreciate your helping us figure out what this system was all about.
October 26th, 2015
Very interesting setup.....that looks like a Hasselblad he is holding at the end of his DSLR, or, Rolleiflex as Babs mentioned....whatever it is it seems like a lot of work....would be nice to see the results. Did you take this shot of them before or after Junko engaged them in conversation?
October 26th, 2015
What a strange set up! I have never seen or heard of anyone doing this. Love to know what the result was and was it worth all that effort? Great street scene!
October 26th, 2015
That is some equipment he has in his hand. Interesting to know what that was all about. Wonderful candid capture - perfect in b&w.
October 26th, 2015
Weird arrangement, but great observation.
October 27th, 2015
Seems like an awfully awkward and cumbersome way to get a shot. So it must be worth it! Good catch!
October 27th, 2015
Well talk about pushing the limit to the next level. What an interesting find you have here, I too wonder what the result will be. Just yesterday I was playing around with old lenses and cameras I purchased from and estate sale of a photographer & collector. Love your composition & especially in b&w as always.
