Study in Gray and Black

We spent a bit of time at Portland's Museum of Art. I was fascinated by this sculpture and hope the artist forgives my manipulation of it to create this composition.
Thanks for the kind -- though unnecessary -- comments on my shots of family. Am definitely enjoying my time with them!
It reminds me of a space craft, glowing from inside.

I thought it was a seed pod before I read your comment! Glad you are enjoying your family get together!

First thought was "burnt bread". Out of curiosity, What manipulation have you done?

I like the subtle tone differences. I'm looking forward to seeing Tilicum Bridge shots

Fantastic interpretation. I love the lighting here.

What a strange sculpture. Looks like a whole series of clenched fists together yet someone thinks it looks like a seed pod.m how different all our perceptions are. Very interesting shot

I really enjoy the shapes and lines of the sculpture's upper portion and wonder what it might look like shot from above (although the museum might not be uber-excited about you hanging over their expensive sculpture to get a "unique" POV). It almost looks as if it was lit from within.

So dramatic!

It's fascinating. Great shot!

@gamelee It was a deep brown, with a sepia kind of background, behind glass so that I had limited POV to draw from. I did a bit of straightening, but mostly just used sliders to fiddle with the desaturation so that it would be almost b&w, but I wouldn't lose the red flare from the center.

@rosiekerr It was quite safely behind glass in front and from the side, and the top went up to about the ceiling...no one was getting access to this!

I thought it was a malformed pumpkin when I first looked at the image. I find the sculpture rather intriguing and would like to see it 'in the flesh'.
