Day 1, Year 4 Mmmm...who would have thought??
Image(s) created from 3 shots using focus stacking (top middle) and then processed using a variety of sources (Lightroom, Viveza, SnapArt, Nik Silver Efex, Color Efex, Topaz Adjust). Collage formed using Picmonkey.
Love this Taffy! So interesting to see all the different effects! I now have the full Nik set including colour Efex so looking forward to playing. I must investigate some of the others you have mentioned. Which would you recommend?
It never ceases to amaze me what can be done with an image. I watched a programme on a historical theme where parents were showing their children what it was like when they were young. One of the things they looked at were cameras with films, a whole range of them . They talked about having to have the film developed. More than one made the comment about how they took many fewer snaps and about the excitement of opening your pack to see how the shots turned out. It made me think of how many shots we can take now and how they can be edited and worked on. We create our own pleasure and 365 would not have existed then!
So much fun in processing. I hate deciding... Oh on a completely different note, guess who turned up in my purse after a FULL month's absence??? (Answer: Mr. Pig)
@pamknowler Of the ones listed here, I use them in the following order:
Lightroom always
Nik Silver Efex, on 95% of any b&w photo I end up keeping
Color Efex, use regularly for specific filters like polarization, solarization for particular types of processing, and other combinations when looking to just do something fun, more ETSOOI than LR refining of a photo
Topaz Adjust, use when Color Efex is too 'tame' but not used regularly
SnapArt, only use for specific painting/drawing effects
Viveza - had it and didn't know it so just used it this time to see what it did. Now can't even remember which one.
I don't use processing apps much (on iPad) just because of the pain of exporting to photos in order to process on the iPad, but there are a lot of fun ones there. @rosiekerr introduced me to Droste and @jyokota recently found some fun ones for fisheye and kaleidoscope. I think LR and Silver Efex do almost everything I need for 95% of my photos. Oh, one goal for Year 4 is to learn to make use of Photoshop, which I am very very clunky with and don't use enough to remember from one time to the next. It's more powerful than all the plug-ins, I suspect.
@onewing Yeah...hard to suddenly stop! Especially sitting in front of the TV for a marathon watch of a series! Had hours to do this! Now thinking I'll focus on Photoshop tutorials and just do what I can re other things...feeling the need to push myself and not sure exactly how!
@taffy Thanks Taffy. i think LR and Silver Efex are my main editing programs and now I have colour Efex I will have a play . I really need to learn Photoshop - I have only tapped the surface and that was with the old version. Now I have PS CC it is really different and I am a bit lost even with my basic cloning - I can't work out how to get the right screen. I definitely need lessons!! I think I will try some Youtube tutorials. I am better though if someone shows me and takes me through the process. I am definitely concentrating on improving my editing skills in year 4. Just remembered now I have my new laptop maybe I will be able to do focus stacking.
@francoise Could you check your purse for my speedlight. It has been missing for a little bit. Don't know how long because I don't use it much in summer. I'd be happy if it showed up anywhere. Richard says it will show up when I buy a new one. Ouch can't afford that right now.
I literally cannot choose a favorite. Each one is so unique and eye-catching in their own way. Goes to show that the photographer has some really good shooting and editing skills! :)
Thanks for the information you gave Pam! For ages I couldn't grasp what Nik was, but having the On1 set , I think they're quite similar. As we've discussed, I use Photoshop 100% of the time and then move to so additional tweaks in other programs. I recently bought Lightroom and find in many ways, it's like PS, but missing a couple of features I like, I want to learn to use it...the challenge and all..but for me, I see reason to approach it cautiously. LOTS to chat about in May!
