Just finished the photo course and found it VERY worthwhile. Learned a lot about composition from instructor, and processing from interacting with him and peers in the course (lucky to have some very talented photographers participating). This was from a side trip with Junko and 2 others from the course after our full day yesterday - we decided to go back to the crater in hopes it would clear and we could photograph the Milky Way over the crater. Instead, we were rained on several times but in between photographed some intriguing clouds over the bubbling cauldron. And the little dot is Mars -- a steady companion in the sky when there were openings in the clouds. Junko gives us a closeup view: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2016-09-22
Course instructor for those interested - Gary Hart - easily googled.
An amazing experience, for sure. I have been to Etna several times but have only seen some smoke coming out of the volcano. Super capture and composition. Huge fav.
@jgpittenger I thought he was excellent. He works to make sure that the group dynamics are good ones, and his pacing was fine. He held 2 image reviews that I found to be extremely helpful. He was very accessible in the field for answering questions and giving advice -- but only if asked as he felt we would have our own agendas/plans when out shooting.
Love the striking simplicity and drama of the composition. At its very best on black.
It reminds me of some of the 'dawn of time' sequences for Stravinsky's Rite of Spring in Disney 's 1st Fantasia. Fav.
FAV -- I love how your wide angle takes me right back to standing there. The composition is perfect! I posted the super-zoom that cut off the writing from the plastic bag but I ended up liking the effect.
I don't know how I failed to comment on this before as I remember seeing it and being in awe. Just popped over from @jyokota post of same. What a wonderful experience you must both have had. So much drama and the power of nature portrayed here.
It sounds like you had a fantastic course! I really like your composition on this shot with the vegetation on the right, it gives not only scale to the shot but also makes my mind think of something bigger than earth, it has a sci fi feel to it!
