Taken from the LavaOne boat tour of the volcano at night. We (Junko & me, with three of our 'classmates') went out on a 42 foot skiff in open ocean water in total darkness -- with waves splashing over the side of the boat -- to view the lava flow at night. It was quite an adventure and an amazing sight to see of gigantic billowing clouds of pink and gray smoke and giant burning sections of lava. Photographic results were pretty much luck -- had to use very high ISO and just snap away as clouds of smoke enveloped the burning embers. When I downloaded photos, this scene really jumped out at me. Ghostly looking but so clearly a face and finger. If you have time, much better on black.
Junko's image provides context so you can see how these were a small part of the scene: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2016-09-23
Thank you for your comments/favs on my photo of the crater posted yesterday. Another week before I'm home and the big 'catch up' begins.
Fabulous image Taffy! Not sure I like the idea of the skiff with water coming over the sides! Very brave of you and Junko! Yes i can see the face too! Fav!
it took me a while to see the face and the finger, but once seen, very striking. What an adventure. Quite the intrepid explorers you and Junko are. It is indeed an amazing capture.
This is so awesome - once you pointed out the ghostly face and finger, it even elevated this to a whole other level. That's amazing you captured this formation to make this face... Very beautiful and neat.
Super shot and I CAN see the face and finger.
