After seeing riders on the beach during our stay, I convinced Jim that we should go riding, assuming the horses were dull trail horses and I could take photos while we rode. At the last minute I decided to take my little P&S instead of main camera. Thank goodness! The horses were spirited and all my shots had to be taken one-handed while guiding the horse and keeping him in check. I couldn't decided between my two favorites. Alternative is in other album: http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2017-01-03
Super composition; strong foreground, interesting supporting background. Neat tonal edit and framing finishes the picture very nicely. Love texture of the sand. (Looks like snow in ways. Bet you're glad it's not.)
After looking at both, I think I prefer this one (slightly). Lovely light, scene, sand around the hooves and horizon silhouettes. Good for you, to ride a "spirited" horse. :)
This is fabulous Taffy!! What wonderful composition and processing!! I am laughing to myself - not only are you are an incredible photographer you can also do it riding a horse holding the camera in one hand!! Is there anything you cannot do? LOL!! Is there a photo of you on the horse - that would be nice to see!! Fav for this of course for so many reasons!!
Super capture. I really like the composition of this one although not 100% sure about the sepia. Superb lighting.
It is not easy riding and taking photos at the same time. I never ride with my main camera but occasionally take the bridge camera along. I never take the camera if we are going to be doing any trotting or cantering as I don't want to have to worry about the camera flapping about.
This is fabulous Taffy - love the comp on this one. The silhouettes in the distance and the detail of the close up rider - loving that puff of sand kicked up by the hooves!
Wow, what a woman! Controlling a spirited horse and taking photos too is an impressive feat in my book. Great photo too, the composition is very strong with the foreground rider in just the right place. That must be a very wide beach.
@golftragic@jgpittenger@salza I'm sure you would have been laughing hysterically watching me hold onto the camera under my arm to keep it from flopping when my horse decided it wanted to trot (or canter). Most of the time, I could take the shots while the horse ambled along and a few times I could actually get him to stop (he didn't like staying still when the others were moving on). But he caught me a few times unprepared when he took off after the others. And I was in tennis shoes (not boots), no pockets (dumb). So not the most responsible behavior on my part. I'm SO sore today I can barely walk!!
It's a toss up for me. I looked at both photos and like both for different reasons. Great photo and processing. Sure would love to get out into life and take some photos. Rain, wind, cold here. Not over all the cold gave to me so taking care per my Dr. More rain, wind and cold this coming weekend. Look for us to float away. Lots of sandbagging going on and lots of concern of flooding. Luckily not where we live but in too many places where water rises. FAV
Both fabulous images but I like composition and processing on this one the best, how you managed to ride (in tennis shoes) and take photos at the same time I haven't a clue! FAV
@darsphotos Oh gosh...after needing rain for so long, now you're faced with flooding in that area. Weather is harsh, isn't it! I appreciate your kind comments about both the shots. I couldn't choose either!
@taffy We all wanted rain so much because of the drought we had and now more than maybe many can handle. Weather is unpredictable for sure and we all just have to deal with it the best we can. You are very welcome. You take great photos and to choose can be impossible.
@taffy glad you didn't fall nor drop your camera. I've almost decided to take my fugi rather than my Nikon on the trip cause of my shoulder. I should have started practicing with it a few weeks ago!
