The Lone Skater by taffy

The Lone Skater

At Millennium Park, practicing panning. The buildings are not quite blurry enough, but I couldn't follow him for long as there were actually a number of skaters on the rink. Behind the skater is Michigan Avenue. In the spring and summer, the ice rink becomes an outdoor garden restaurant.
Wow, your skater is in perfect focus.

You've nailed the skater, in a manner of speaking, and the buildings behind are just soft enough to make him stand out. Great in B&W.

The lone skater really catches my eye!

Really nice job with the panning.

excellent shot

The not-quite-blur works well as does b&w.
January 28th, 2017
good winter city scene
January 28th, 2017
Incredible picture and perspective.
January 28th, 2017
Love the shot and just having one skater!
January 28th, 2017
Wonderful high key, love that focus on the skater
January 28th, 2017
Wonderful image Taffy with just the right amount of blur behind the skater. I think this looks more natural as the blur relates to his speed. Looks like fun!! Fav!

Super composition, it's as if he's the only one out and about.
January 28th, 2017
Very nicely composed :)

Beautiful composition. Great in B&W

Beautiful shot and composition. B7&w brings out a lot of detail. I think you did a good job with the panning.
January 28th, 2017
Well, I think having the skater in focus already makes this one a winner, even if you wanted more blur :)
January 28th, 2017
nicely done and great edit.
January 28th, 2017
wonderful composition
January 28th, 2017

Excellent shot and great composition.

Wow, this really looks different as a skating rink. Last I was here it was crowded with tables and chairs and lots of people enjoying a summer evening. Amazing that you were able to get just one picture in the photo.
January 28th, 2017
Love how you got the skater in perfect clarity and the b&w processing.
January 28th, 2017
great find.
January 28th, 2017
A lovely scene. I've tried panning and found it difficult to capture the movement adequately
January 28th, 2017
This is wonderful!

A super composition and capture
January 28th, 2017

Wonderful focus, the skater stands out, yet one can still enjoy the background
January 29th, 2017
Great capture of the skater in action.
January 29th, 2017
He looks as though he has the rink to himself. Well composed shot.

Wonderful! Just had a long phone chat with Sue Stephenson (365) this afternoon, and she was in the dining room atop the Athletic Club last night and said it was beautiful looking down on the skating rink! I'm delighted to come here and see it for myself!
January 29th, 2017
Incredible capture, love the sharp focus on the skater!!
January 29th, 2017
Great candid shot
January 29th, 2017

January 29th, 2017
Oh, great capture!
January 29th, 2017

January 29th, 2017
The back drop of the beautiful buildings st the scene for the lone skater a fav
January 29th, 2017
He is beautifully sharp. I think you're right, the background would be better more blurry. He's skating off to find some of those donuts methinks......
January 29th, 2017
Awesome in b&w, great panning!
January 29th, 2017
Cool capture!
January 30th, 2017
Beautifully shot!
January 30th, 2017
This is such a great capture. I love how clear you captured this skater and the blur of the buildings in the distance. FAV
January 30th, 2017
@bella_ss Yes. the rink is part of the city park -- Millennium Park -- which is now the top tourist site in Chicago. Above the rink looking over it is the area of The Bean.

@Weezilou Such a small world!
January 30th, 2017
Spot on focus!!!
