Not quite a needle in a haystack, but about the same result when one's drive lands in the what on Beaver Island is very serious "rough." There's a joke on the course about the Beaver Island Ball Exchange -- as long as you find a ball, even if not yours, you're good to go. This is not my favorite hole as opposite this rough is a heart shaped gigantic sand bunker, and the hole is up a hill. And these two got a little close without noticing.
I'm trying to get used to my little Olympus-Tough point & shoot that fits in my pocket, with a few more options than my iPhone and waterproof.
I think this shot has a very old fashioned feel to it! I didn’t realise they were looking for a golf ball! Rather think that they are blackberrying or something similarly innocent & rustic.
I love this scene and like @happypat I find it looks very old fashioned , like a scene from the 1940's especially in B/W -- a case of "I seek it here and seek it there " !!!
I love my Olympus Tough P & S- for a quick shot on the road when the "big girl" camera isn't around it has really impressed me with its clarity and color. The macro option is really good as well. I got mine for the same reason- fits in my pocket and is waterproof. I still haven't read about all its capabilities. I hope the hunt was successful- and they didn't pick up any ticks! Good catch.
@carolmw@busylady LOL -- nope...once the ball goes into that rough, it's anyone's guess where it might actually lie. The hope is to find someone's ball to replace the lost one, but no luck this time.
@bob65 Exactly -- have to play with old balls you don't care about as losing them is part of the game here. Unless you're a really accurate golfer, of course!
@ellida Hehe! Between thorns, snakes, and other icky things, not only no barefoot, but we even wear socks if we're wearing golf sandals!
@sailingmusic There are ticks, sadly! We didn't used to have them here until about 6 years ago. SO many reasons to try to keep our ball on the fairway, but somehow, we struggle, no matter how wide it is!
Love this shot - and its old-fashioned look - AND the story behind it. I could relate to every comment - they were all wonderful. You have to love the game or you'd lose me at "ticks".
How the hell can they find their balls in a place like that. And when they find them, if they do, a tough job to hit them and in the right direction. Great b&w capture.
That is bloody serious rough Taffy, in Oz we have a saying about stuff like that 'it's where elephants go to die'. I'd go for the 'local' rule if I were you. Some time back I played a very tough course in Tasmania where, for people like our group, there was a 'local rule' called the 'Irish drop' whereby if one's ball had disappeared in serious rough one could just drop another at point of entry and play on with no penalty. Very sensible IMO.
