I saw these sandals while waiting for a family to show up for their son's senior portrait photo shoot on this bay. They were late so I had plenty of time to photograph the sandals as different 'stories' occurred to me. I ended up not being able to decide between these two so thought I"d post both, as it is interesting to me to see what changing color/b&w, DoF, and breadth of the scene does to change what the story might be. The color, wider breadth, is here: https://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2020-07-27
Thank you for your encouraging comments on the milky way shot I posted yesterday. I think I'll do more of these while I have the chance to live in a dark sky environment! It feels very special to have that access these days.
I really like this one with the focus on the sandals. I think the coloured version tells the story and this one is more artistically focussed on an object if that makes any sense
I like both, but probably prefer this one. I wonder what the story is........ how someone could not notice they have gone home without their sandals on the night before.....
Or if it were a children's story, they would have gone off on an adventure because they were tired of being taken where the human wanted them to go. We want to explore on our own! Can't see over the dune though......must climb up high on the post so we can see the sea and work out where we want to go next.......
I think the black and white image is the stronger of the two. In this one the sandals are clearly the subject. In the other it's debatable and for me the sandals get swallowed up by the grasses and the environment then becomes the subject. In this one the path, although out of focus and in the background, supports the idea of walking to the beach as it gently leads in that direction. In the other it's more of a color block next to the green of the grass and blue of the ocean. Well, that's my analysis!
