When Junko was here, we tried photographing the hummingbirds that visit our feeder. Mostly they were totally uncooperative. Today, I spent about an hour just sitting out there with my long lens and after taking probably a hundred photos, I downloaded this 6 photos that had promise, and this one was one of the only ones in focus. I really admire photographers who can photograph these in motion!
Considering the difficulty of the task, quite a neat shot. I don't know if you used the continuous autofocus which makes it easier to get shots like this. By the way, the shape of the bird resembles the F-117 aircraft.
They are definitely a challenge which I have come close to capturing but not quite to my satisfaction yet. I think you did really well with this shot (and the ratio sounds about right 100 to 1).
I agree. You should have seen Ron @strayshooter and me trying to photograph them in Capistrano when we were there. Bloody hilarious and not a decent photo between us.
