Last night was supposed to be a big one for northern lights, even as far 'south' as Beaver Island. So, I hoped for green streaks dashing across the sky. Instead, I did get some color in the sky but the most interesting to me ended up being the Big Dipper. This is stitched from 3 shots to try to convey the expanse looking north.
@gardencat Yes, the color on the horizon is from northern lights. I've learned that they can be subtle, as in this image, or really dramatic with the dancing green waves across the sky. Of course, the latter is more fun to photograph!
@taffy I saw them once, from a plane, on my way to Iceland. They were a little brighter than in this image but sadly not the brilliant, dancing ones, that I've seen in some videos of them.
you caught something of the northern lights which must have been exciting and then the great bonus of the big dipper. What a successful night of photography you had. You must be so pleased with this series.
