By now it's probably obvious I'm obsessed with this building. The good news for all of you is probably that I only have one more photo beyond this one that is 'post-worthy' so it will be over soon! This is taken on the 2nd floor balcony walking back from the spiral staircase. I just loved that the walkway is made of glass bricks. Other information about the building can be found in earlier shots if you've missed them and are interested. I wish shift focus to something new shortly! Thank you all for your wonderful response to the spiral staircase and the lobby wide angle. I'm thrilled, really, as it makes me feel so good to be sharing this little gem (little as in at 12 stories, it's tiny by our downtown office building standards). I hope that some of you will visit Chicago someday and make a point to see this treasure (reminder: tour is critical, access otherwise is only to the lobby). One more fun fact: The name "Rookery" originally came from the fact that crows lived in the walls as it was originally the site of the water tower. Then, when city hall moved to the site and they built the building, they kept the name but now it meant more about political graft (getting 'rooked' by politicians). There are artistic crows in various spots on the exterior of the building in a 'wink, wink' from the architects.

Taffy, you've brought us some WONDERFUL images of the always-stunning Chicago architecture! Your photos could be used in a guide book to spur all visitors to personally see the sights you've pictured! I've been to the ("Architecture Tour" gift shop...not sure if that's the exact name) and I can easily envision your photography for sale there...it would fit right in!
Love the lines, symmetry and repetition. Looks and sounds like a great place to visit. I'm amused by your comment of it being 'little' as where I live it would be the biggest building by far! Our tallest building is all of four stories!
What's a stunning walkway photographed beautifully to show off it's splendour to us. I would never have thought that something like this would be inside. You certainly have made the most of the tour.
My older son attended Pratt Art Institute whose library was designed by Tiffany. The floors are designed in a similar fashion- in glass but they are not of the small blocks like this balcony, but rather large glass tiles that are held together by wrought iron grill work. This is a great shot- I love how both the walkway and the pattern of the bricks lead you into the picture.
