Earth Day with Nutmeg by taffy

Earth Day with Nutmeg

Yesterday, April 21st, was our Bernese Mountain Dog Nutmeg's 13th birthday. She was not having too good a day, but today was more chipper. She spent most of Earth Day closer to earth (the front stoop) instead of on her bed in the condo. And late this afternoon was able to walk a block to her favorite fountain. When she was younger, she was able to put her front paws up and take a drink. No more...So this photo is a combination. On the one hand, it reflects the typical urban 'earth' -- a small plot of garden, with signs of new growth, in the midst of all the urban textures -- brick, cement, and iron. On the other hand, this is really a Happy Birthday card to Nutmeg (she's viewing the scene in the far left by the fountain - may need to view large to see her): You made it to spring. Hang in there another 5 weeks and we'll be on Beaver Island. The green shoots in this photo are your proof -- you continue to beat all the odds and will be able to enjoy another spring.
Cool shot! Happy Birthday Nutmeg!

Love the juxtaposition of the green shoots and the urban cement. Nutmeg's profile in the shot is really cool.

very cool, and very touching story. mad me sad and put a smile on my face at the same time. i think it's cool when that happens, looking at a photo and hearing the artists interpretation of the shot.

Happy birthday Nutmeg. Love the selective colour of the shoots, and Nutmeg's sneaky cameo in your pic too.

@alia_801 Thank you! It's a typical Nutmeg move -- to be everywhere I look, even though she isn't even walking on her own!
@genesis_one Thanks Corrie
@pflaume Thank you Lisa.
@melody2289 I do love this dog and have shared your birthday wishes with her.
@photodude Thanks Scott. It's been a hard year and we never thought we'd still have her. it's because of her that I started 365, since I cancelled travel (I used to be on the road a lot) and am pretty much home with time I usually don't have. Who knew what a world it would open up to me -- so she helps me even when she didn't mean to!

@sgiesman @amandal @lisay Thanks Sarah, Amanda, and Lisa! Lisa -- your b'day wishes are now shared with Nutmeg!
