Drivers Beware! by taffy

Drivers Beware!

This sign is not a joke! It's on East Side Drive. Why? Notice the tiny building in the background (easiest to see viewed large if you have time). It is Welke's airport, home of Island Airways owned and run by the Welke's, one of the two charter services serving the island (the other, closer to us, is Island Air, operating out of the Township Airport on the west side of the island.). When you drive on East Side Drive, you have to listen for the planes because if the wind happens to be in a particular pattern, the small planes (6 and 10 seaters) literally are on approach for landing, at car height, on the runway in front of the little building you can see.
Wow...sounds like a really small airport. I'm glad they warm you with the sign. Nicely composed shot.

Nice composition Taffy, I like signs like this that you may think twice about, we have loads here in Australia that make me laugh. I bet you could capture some amazing shots of the aircraft.

Fun capture. Love sign shots. I'll have to show this to my husband. As a pilot, he will love it.

Nice perspective using the sign as the predominant focal point really gives it our attention. Good story to go with it also.

Love the crackle in the sign too.

@darylo Thanks Daryl -- I suspect all signs on the island are crackled in some way (or cracked!).
