Buzzing About, Nature Style by taffy

Buzzing About, Nature Style

Whoo-hoo! My get-pushed challenge this week is to capture an object, person or animal in mid air. Fun! Two things on my bucket list for this summer have been a bee in flight (I know, lots have already done this, but I really have wanted to capture one) and the biplane that buzzes our beach and sometimes even closer ( http://365project.org/taffy/365/2013-07-15). So, today was my lucky day! I captured this using my new full frame D600 with mega-pixels so I was able to crop quite a bit and not lose much clarity. Taken this evening during the golden hour in one of the flower/herb beds in our yard.
Oh hes so fuzzy=D

Well done, bees in flight are almost impossible. Good to see you are having fun with the new camera.

Wow, you have got the dynamic duo, today. Well done, it took me ages to figure out to capture a bee in flight. Brilliant focus

@wenbow I got lucky today -- I've been trying for ages, but since the challenge was for flight, I just kept at it. A huge element of luck!

Excellent capture! Glad you had a wonderful photo day! And congrats on your new toy...lots to re-learn on a full frame :)

LOL super!! it looks like it is so fat that its little wings might not keep him in flight!! Congrats for the inflight shot

He is so cUTE! I have captured "carpenter bees" which look like cute bumblebees in flight, but not a real bumble bee. Carpenters have shiny shells on the back half..yuck. Not fuzzy stuff. This is great

Great action shot! Congrats on the new camera!

great shot

Ha, ha, ha! This guy is such a chubber! Great capture and focus - these fellers are not easy at all.
July 17th, 2013
@espyetta I always wondered what the difference was between the ones I've been able to shoot and the more idealized bumblebees. Thanks for clarifying! This guy was a chubby one!!

@timandelke Thanks Elke -- I actually used the new camera body a little today along with the manual and a book I bought for it. I figured out how to unlock the focus that wasn't letting me choose a focal point -- it took forever but now I think I'll start using it more. That was driving me nuts.

@archaeofrog Thanks Katie -- I was so glad as almost every day I was trying and failing to get a decent bee shot.
July 17th, 2013
@taffy well..I was just saying there are two kinds. I think they are equally hard to shoot. And I think of your real bumble as the "ideal" bee. :0)

Wow, this is rather special

@busylady Thanks so much Judith! It was the sunset one -- waiting for the storm 1 ( http://365project.org/taffy/365/2013-07-17). It was exciting to see such a wonderful response to it.
