I already admit this is a dumb post. But...as I was rushing to catch the sun setting, I looked up and was astounded thinking there was an owl in the tree just ahead. I could only see the shadow. I tiptoed around to get my camera ready before I figured it would take off. Only as I looked through the zoom did I realize it was made of wood. Sheepishly, I still took the shot. In the end, downloading it, I liked the composition and thought it was kind of a nice looking carving so am posting it anyway. You can probably tell I'm not much of a bird watcher! We probably don't even have this kind of owl here (and maybe this isn't even a kind of owl at all!).
A "real" scene is in my main album: http://365project.org/taffy/365/2013-12-01
LOL I think that has happened to everyone in one way or another. But you turned it into a great story! I think it's supposed to look like a Great Horned Owl- but owls are not my expertise so I could be wrong. Fun shot!
Lol, I can so see myself doing the exact same thing. All anticipation until you realize it's not real. Glad you followed through though :) If that's wood someone spent an awful lot of time on it and it deserves to be in the spotlight.
The mascot of my college was the owl....they were all over the place, carved in stone in the arches of the buildings, freestanding, in our lanterns, you name it....and, I still would not be able to tell you what kind of owl this is! Great picture, really! And, I love the story... :-)
Oh, I needed a laugh - thank you for this! Did you check to see if anyone was looking once you discovered your feathered friend wasn't real? It's a lovely shot, beautifully composed.
@timandelke Heehee -- yes, I did find myself looking around to see if anyone was watching me! It was pretty embarrassing assuming they could tell that I'd thought it was real!
