Taken for my extras album since I seem to have backed into a week of black and white, and have been challenged by April Milani to shoot 'noir' this week. I'd also taken the moon tonite through an open door but when I saw Sarah's almost identical shot -- very cool, by the way and viewable at: http://365project.org/pixiemac/365/2014-01-06 -- I decided to post this instead. More noir shots to come -- exploring the idea of noir as story-telling and debating the importance of the photo having to have figures in them.

@aprilmilani I almost tagged you with it -- despite the samples you sent, I wondered if you can really have a noir shot with a person or some kind of story conveyed. What do you think?
There´s something about b&w flowers that intrigues me, maybe it´s the absence of colours that makes one truely appreciate all the lines and how the ligh finds its way to the leaves....and i do love the light here, beautiful play of shadows and light!
I am not usually fond of flowers images in b&w but THIS has blown me away !! Fantastic sharp details , wonderful lighting giving the lilies a silvery glow emphasising the textures Love it and a bi fat FAV
Beautiful B&W image Taffy!! Lovely details!! That's so funny I was going to do a B&W of the new flower on my orchid - I think I will rethink that!! LOL!! Fav!!
Absolutely beautiful! My Get Pushed partner challenged me to do a still life this week with things from my house. I havent tried yet. This is fabulous.
I get what you are saying. I think flowers tell a story as well. Who gave them, and why. Was she sad or ...Well you know. Im big on taking an idea and then doing it my way. I say do Nior your way. =D
@panthora Thank you Osia! I hadn't really planned on the b&w, but now that I've backed into it, I'm sort of 'into it' and will at least continue through Sunday. Then, we'll see. It also works well with my get-pushed to create noir shots. I had a lot of fun today getting Jim and a colleague to pose for a scene!
@rvwalker Thanks Ross! Flowers are actually fascinating and a good place to start for b&w. They have so much structure that we totally miss because the color overshadows. I'd love to see you give it a try, with your eye!
@bernicrumb Berni, I'm so flattered! If you ever want a photo of mine, let me know and I'd gladly figure a way to get you the large resolution!! But with your album, why hang someone else's photos???
@pamknowler I look forward to a b&w of your orchid!! You should definitely post -- it's fun, to me, to get the structures to come out once the color is gone.
@susale I totally agree about flowers making interesting b&w subjects. I think we've trained our minds to see color so much that without it, we are able to see the structure that's otherwise in the background. Thanks!
I'd hang this on my livingroom wall if I had it in a proper high resolution print. :-)
