Several months ago, Michael @michaelelliott posted a photo titled Lady in Red - http://365project.org/michaelelliott/and-more-365/2013-04-24 - which I've always loved. I thought of Michael's photo longingly -- not only was it beautiful, but I'll be his fingers weren't frostbitten while on a short photo walk! So, here's my version of the concept, mid winter, where we no longer can remember the last day it was above freezing in Chicago!
For bw-bookclub, black and white as normality to document everyday life.
AND, most important of all, thank you soooo much for your awesome support that led to Icicles in the Sunset being in the TT this week. It is a thrill to see a photo of mine included in that group -- and it made it worth the trip up snowy stairs to the roof for the shot.
Michael, @michaelelliott is a really talented photographer and gets lots of favs and PPs so was pleased to see his Lady in Red! Yours is beautiful for the snow providing brilliant light and the movement of the Lady! No 1 in my book!
@maggiemae Thanks Maggiemae! It's so interesting to me how I feel connected to people around the world through their photos that somehow live with me long after they've appeared in my threads. I saw her and just thought, oh, Michael's lady in red -- but now she's bundled up in the snow!
This is beautiful....very, very well done!! And, I see that you used selective coloring for your B&W! ;-) Which editing program did you end up using? It is something I have been wanting to try, but have not had the time to explore it yet!
Oh, and BTW, BIG Congrats on TT!! I saw it earlier as I was browsing this morning, before all hell broke loose, and I could not believe that I had not seen it before! Your icicle photo with the sunset is gorgeous, and so deserving of TT!
@panthora Thanks Osia! The SC is very simple using the Aperture program I use with my mac. I basically call up black and white, then use the brush to 'brush away' b&w and reveal the red underneath. I brought up the contrasts using Color Efex, because if I work in Silver Efex (my b&w processing of choice), I can't bring the color back.
Taffy thank you so much for the wonderful words. That was yet another shot I walked into and had to shoot fast before they moved or saw me and moved. Great shot here. Love the pop of red against that snow. Excellent contrasts. You still coming in in a few days right? We shooting Monday?
@michaelelliott Yep -- our flight gets in by noon, so barring weird weather or something, we should be up for a photo shoot by mid-afternoon. We can text when we get settled in.
Cool find and shot! For some reason her black and white hair is bothering me, but I wonder if whatever color it is would be too distracting. My brain is ok with the black/white pants and backpack but not face/hair.
@archaeofrog I see what you mean, but it needs to be viewed large. When you do that, you can see that her hood is back over her shoulder and that isn't her hair we see, but a black & red woven ski-type hat with a round ball at the top. You can barely see her face - the light spot is her hand that is resting on the strap of her backpack. Suggestions for alternative processing would be great!
@archaeofrog Darn!! That's hard to do. The only thing I could think of is, if I knew PS, somehow giving her hat more color so that the red pattern in the hat stood out. It goes with the theme, but the red is so light it really looks black almost, even in the color version.
