My get pushed partner, Anita Russell @neatz challenged me to create a selfie using a mirror. Since I don't have a mirror at home except in the bathroom, I decided to head into the Loop (downtown Chicago) looking for interesting mirrors (e.g., in elevators, at corners, in lobbies). This reflector (not exactly a mirror, but not really a window) had potential. I shot this at the Rookery, under the grand staircase. I did no processing to change the color -- this is pretty much SOOC except for a bit of a crop.

@ikamera I actually am not sure! I was just trying to adjust it in picmonkey as it looks so fakey red, but it isn't very sensitive to change which is weird.
@panthora Heehee!! Love the connection of night owl and lack of mirrors (except of course the magnifying makeup mirror which would truly have been a scary selfie!!). Story of the one mirror that we did have -- inside my husband's amoir was a full length mirror on the door. About a week ago, I opened the door to use it, just as it started crashing to the floor and I actually caught it in time!! So now it's sitting against the wall as we can't figure out how to safely reinstall it. Imagine if no one had been around -- talk about timing!!
@rvwalker I do like being identified as mysterious! Thanks as always for your comment. It was fun trying to create this and the color was a bonus -- do you have any idea why, given the 'normal' lighting in the lobby, that it would have turned out so red, and so impervious to color adjustment?
@francoise I thought the whole thing strange, actually. Almost like Frank Lloyd Wright or other architects were REAL ghosts under the stairs and somehow I wandered into an otherworldly place. It was not red when I was taking the photo!!
@kathiecb I had the same reaction when I saw the two posts, but sadly, I suspect they are part of some kind of infrastructure that does support the stairs -- but clearly not all by themselves (I hope!).
Interesting effect- it looks like Picmonkey bumped up your saturation somehow. It worked in your favor though. I think I would have turned the camera though and included your feet. Otherwise, it's a cool shot!
