A "Small" Detail by taffy

A "Small" Detail

My wonderful get-pushed partner, knowing my love of architecture, challenged me to focus on "the details of a building," creating a composition from one small area. I went to the meetup (see main album - http://365project.org/taffy/365/2014-04-15 ) early tonight to photograph details of the exterior of the Adler Planetarium -- a building that to me is amazing -- exterior walls of marble and a gigantic dome that dominates the end of the museum campus pier. I tried to capture the details of the walls and dome here, while creating a composition that would be interesting.
Hope, I hope you like it! I have more in mind...my walk yesterday ended up in a fail, but I have one more chance this week to get downtown to the building I want to use.
Beautiful!

Even in the photo of the photographers in the dark, I knew that location...it's part of what I love about your photography. I then recognized this immediately...a lovely composition and building!

You have succeeded marvellously in your mission...both detail and composition portrayed very well! I love your attention to the little Aquarius relief and the subdued exposure compliments the tone of the building very well.

@mzzhope You are fast!! I didn't even get back to tag you yet! Thanks -- I'm so glad you liked it! My other one will require a telephoto and a clear sky -- haven't had the latter her for a few days!

The Adler really is spectacular. This image is tilted a bit, which makes the viewer appreciate a more dynamic depiction than the usual.

there certainly tonnes of detail here, great shot!

My first reaction when I saw this was that it was a fancy tomb, because of the low key exposure, the marble, and the carved figure resembling cemetery art. It made a difference because I was unfamilar with the building. It is a creative approach to an architecture photo.
