The Red Canoe by taffy

The Red Canoe

On the shore at Barney's Lake - one of the inland ones on Beaver Island. Processed first for sc, then using Color Efex solarization filter, playing with the 'elapsed time' slider to get the look I wanted.
Interesting thing to note: people can leave canoes, etc next to the lake they are going to use, because on an island, it's next to impossible to steal anything like this -- what could a thief do with it? And most people leave keys in their cars when they park, in case someone might need to move it!
Lovely scene! I like the SC and how the colour is very subtle!

Love the composition and processing! Fav for me

An instant fav! I love the processing and composition here Taffy! We went to a lake last year on the Northern Beaches and the boats were left like this, I found that interesting that they could just leave them.

a fav! beautifully composed and the SC is perfect

Awesome composition

I like the choice of color for your selective color. It's almost a copper color, which makes that middle boat appear a bit 3D. Love it. Fav!

Awesome picture.

Well spotted and nicely captured.

That folks can leave their boats and unlocked cars unattended speaks volumes for life on Beaver Island. Sounds like a wonderful place, and it's definitely a treasure-trove of photo opportunities.

Congratulations on making the Trending Page. Well deserved.

This is an awesome shot, a fav.

I especially admire how you took an image that caught my eye, but I couldn't see the potential in it, and waved your magic processing wand over it and created an artistic rendition.

I love the processing here Taffy. What a great place Beaver Island is. One of the saddest things for me going back to Northern Ireland since the early 70s is seeing the increased security. As a child nowhere was ever locked up, doors were left open as people went to the shops etc. slowly as 'the troubles' spread communities grew afraid and now every house virtually has a chain at the door so that the occupant feels more secure when they answer a knock. So sad.

Fantastic processing! Such graceful use of selective color.

A brilliant shot. Fav

What I love is that the SC is muted and in tune with the shoe shot. Superb!

What I love about this shot is the metallic look of the red boat! Masterful processing. Wow!

@ceilidh what part of n Ireland you from? My m in law is n Irish and we have been over a lot. Especially portrush, fell in love with the place 11 years ago before it revived a bit. Taffy it is stunning. Such a peaceful feel to it

super processing. looks great
August 13th, 2014
This is really great processing, Taffy...first time that you move me to consider getting more of these fancy processing effects software! I really like the composition an SC too, the boats being beautifully placed on a third from the bottom and, although the red boat is in the centre and not on one side, the SC forces attention on it.

That is beautiful Taffy!! And it makes sense they don't lock things ;)
August 13th, 2014
This is lovely, nice selective colour.
August 13th, 2014
Sounds like going back in time when everyone used to leave there front door open all the time having no fear of intruders. Lovely sc and tone. FAV.
August 13th, 2014
Beaver Island sounds such a wonderful realaxed place to live. How great to be able to just leave your keys in the car - amazing - if you did that here it would be goodbye to your car!! Love this image Taffy. Not normally a great fan of SC as it can be too !in your eye" if you know what I mean. The colour here is subtle and really makes the shot. great processing as always!! Fav!

What a subtle and effective SC shot Taffy.
August 13th, 2014
Excellent selective color!
August 13th, 2014
this is beautiful - stunning processing
August 13th, 2014
I like the effect the processing gave this image.

First off I love the metallic look of this shot. Secondly, I love sc when done right and it is here. My social comment is that it is said that you have to live on an island to feel you can leave your things and not have to worry that they will be there when you get back. When people living in small towns say that today, I say they are living in a fools paradise.

Super image, love the sc :-)

Thumbs up for the processing - the copper color is really nice.

August 13th, 2014
Lovely capture, like the metallic look on the canoe and other boats.
August 13th, 2014
Love this image and your processing - must have a look at the solarization filter - haven't played with that!
August 13th, 2014
love the processing
August 13th, 2014
This is beautiful and reminds me of an Andrew Wyeth painting. Fav!
August 14th, 2014
And they likely wouldn't mind you taking it out for a spin as long as you returned it. Love the processing and sc
August 14th, 2014
The same is true of King Island in Bass Strait. Wish I lived somewhere like that. I hate carrying a whole bunch of keys. This is a wonderful use of SC and the right processing. The line of boats stand out so well against the slightly blurred foreground and the high key background. Fav for me.
August 14th, 2014
Fav!

@golftragic We're so lucky that we have the chance to live in an environment like this -- total contrast to Chicago!
August 14th, 2014
I really like how this has turned out. I needed to see it large to work out what I was looking. Nice processing.
